Someone on reddit went through the trouble of editing lots of pictures to get rid of the blue/red run offs and replace it with grass and gravel traps. Looks so much better.

God knows how the drivers don't get distracted and take a wrong turn! (though I guess that's why they're paid the big bucks and I'm just a fan)

From a car perspective it will look a lot different. On TV it gives me a headache.

It's actually still pretty confusing onboard, at least in the F1 games... Particularly the chicane on the back straight is hard to spot correctly. :-P

I was curious and it was buried quite deep, so here is the link for anyone interested:

It looks generic now. In the real pictures, you can instantly name what track it is. In the altered photos, it could be anywhere.

I was hoping.... but F1 missed another chance to listen to drivers and fans.

It was like, "good, we will consider removing chicane for 2019, it is too late now", and in the meantime they just did nothing. Shameful.

My immediate reaction was, "look Nurbugring".
BTW, they have put the blue color in 1986, in a bid to create a new profile of the track which got associated with the death of Elio de Angelis who dies there in the test, may 14/15.

A year later, much of that original blue colouring had already faded. I never understood why the track shortcut was introduced. Elio's accident wasn't influenced by the track lay-out.

Long before last year's race, people were saying that Le Castellet would be the perfect track to show that a long straight allows slipstreaming and overtaking. But I can understand the income from the chicane grandstands is vital. Setting those up along a high-speed straight simply isn't an alternative.

Those altered photo's are interesting, but I think that instead of green grass, it should show the original vegetation we can see on old race footage.

New front wing of Racing Point. The upgraded one is at the bottom.

Typical knee jerk reaction. Another example, Terlamenbocht in Zolder absolutely had nothing to do with the tragedy of Gilles Villeneuve, but they added chicane to it, more like some monument to the tragedy. I am glad that they did not change Suzuka after Bianchi's fatal accident.

Silly you ! The new one is nearer to the ground and so should be more efficient.

There's been talk of randomized sprinklers to spice things up in the past, which is probably a non-starter, but could they make France a 'wet' race unless weather forecasts called for rain in the session anyway. Could set it aside from other races, or just a non -starter?

Not sure how you control the weather though, wouldn't you have to find a venue with guaranteed rain on race day?

For the love of god will the Sky team please STFU about that damned Canada penalty. If it will shut everyone up then give Vettel the win back, I am so bored of this rubbish.

The British get all misty eyed whenever they get a chance to drone on and on about following the rules...

I'm really interested to see how Renault go this weekend, some discussion that they are aiming to be on a par with Red Bull. Seems that this is the first opportunity for the revamped engine to stretch its legs in combination with a big new aero package in several areas of the car.

I'm no fan of Sky commentary (puerile rubbish) but I'm enjoying it lately for the comedy value. Herbert 'we shouldn't have rules, they are the best drivers in the world, and if there is any issues they can sort it out as gentlemen post race. DeResta 'Hamilton was also at fault for trying to overtake, and it wouldn't have gone to the stewards if Hamilton had said returning in an unsafe manner, rather than saying dangerous.' Also DeResta on Seb returning to the track 'Hamilton knew where Vettel was going to end up/ Vettel didn't know where he was going to end up.' And now with both Mercedes on hot laps we are interviewing a pregnant woman and talking about sleepless nights

Edit: and we end the session discussing fish soup and why its funny that some people have double-barrelled first names.

No idea why people pay for this rubbish.

How little you know of us!

In relation to this thread, where are we not following the rules exactly?

Well according to the FIA's ruling everyone on the sky sports team got the call wrong. Now they have to backtrack and explain themselves.

They have had two weeks to come with excuses and rationalizations.

You could post that every five minutes whilst Sky is broadcasting and it would be relevant for that particular occasion.

Yeah I switched to Sky this year because I have "free" sky with my current ISP so it was only a tenner a month to get the F1 channel (overall cost still about £30 cheaper than my previous Virgin deal with no movies or sports! 8O )

They really are not a patch on Channel 4, I honestly think even Martin Brundle has lost his way a bit.....

I agree about Brundle, I need to start looking out for C4 for when they cover the races.

I think Sky should replace Croft with Buxton and Brundle with Coulthard. Just my 2 cents.

Certainly replace Croft with Buxton or Bob Varsha. I still like Brundle but wouldn't mind trying out Coulthard as a replacement for Johnny Herbert, De Resta, or Chandok.

I used to like Brundle a lot, but he has slowly been disappearing up his own backside for a few years now. Croft is just a total buffoon who should have been left commentating on darts.
