Verstappen has a good chance here. Maybe the Ferraris too as this circuit is all about downforce, confidence & tyre life.

What chance does Verstappen have here?

Are folks not watching?

Except Mercedes turn everything down they are going to be more dominant here!

S3 in Barcelona tells you the pecking order for Monaco.

Unfortunately Hamilton pole, Bottas 2nd and Hamilton will walk away with the race victory.

Same old....

I seem to remember Merc being quick in S3 in Spain a couple of years ago - 2017 maybe? Then we went to Monaco and Ferrari had an advantage. I could be completely misremembering but that stuck with me. Either way, expecting Merc to be the team to beat again this weekend.

Edit: this link shows best sector times form Spain 2017 and Merc were quickest in S3 that year. https://www.fia.com/file/56880/download

I'll be interested to see if Max can finally overcome his tempestuous relationship with the walls in Monaco, but I don't think he has much of a chance to win. According to his own quote, the Mercedes is better than the Red Bull in every area. They ought to be better here, as well.

Mark Hughes is saying that Mercedes advantage lies in the slow corners.

https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/opin ... ari-behind

If so, and the boys can put in good qualifying laps then it might be all over by the time they exit St. Devote.

If either Valtteri or Lewis get into the lead, the only way they will be beaten is mechanical failure or pit strategy. Of course anyone in the lead after turn 1 will be hard to beat.

It's hard to imagine Ferrari or Redbull outdoing Mercedes here, but stranger things have happened. The last time I was so sure a car would dominate a circuit it turned out to be a dud (Singapore 2018).

As per weather reports, Thursday will be dry but on Saturday there is a 20% chance of rainfall which could either affect FP3 or qualy. Race day could be dry or similar prediction as Saturday. Could go either way.

I'm not convinced. The Merc is very quick, but a handful to drive by the looks of things. I can see one of the mercs stuffing it in the wall during qualy, possibly Hamilton as he seems to be struggling most with one off fast laps.

Rewinding to 5 years back when Bianchi scored 2 points for his team in 2014. He was destined for gold. :(

Hamilton was supposed to attend the driver's press conference yesterday but at the last moment, he decided to give it a miss (probably due to Niki Lauda's death). FIA granted permission from his exemption from the press conference. But some ex drivers have slammed him because yesterday, he entered the paddock area on his racy bike & even did sign autographs.

John Watson branded Hamilton as "Pathetic". Hamilton sadly always gets the ire of media or ex drivers in situations such as this.

It's the Daily Mail. It's what they do. I shouldn't put too much store in it tbh as it's just the standard way the Mail operates.

I think theres a big difference between rocking up in the paddock and signing some autographs - and being force fed questions by journalists in the press conference and media duties.
Lewis will no doubt have plenty to say if he closes the race out with a victory on Sunday.

Just another ex driver who doesn't like him anyway and opportunistically pounces on the opportunity to say something negative about him. For me, THAT is pathetic...

I would love to be that the case, but it seems RedBull no longer has the chassis advantage this year. They didn't look too impressive in slow speed stuff this season so far.

John Watson was apparently quite close to Lauda. I'd cut him some slack as maybe it's the grief talking which ironically is probably why Hamilton was excised on his part. Probably a bit harsh to call him pathetic under the circumstances. I think the paper is at fault here for trying to stir things up at a sensitive time, not the individuals.

I can understand if it was.

Maybe Herman Tilke designed the Rich Energy Logo?

Can you get any more blatant?

And Watson is the first one to enter the ring to claim the position of chief mourner.

(I assume he said similar about the Ferrari drivers when they were excused media following the death of Marchionne.)

Vettel's Lauda helmet is cool, nice to see a change from the white with German flag stripe one.

Will be interesting to see how P2 shapes up, Verstappen splitting the Mercedes gives me hope of a fight for pole.

Although his regular lid is one of my favourites. I'm a sucker for a simple helmet design

Here even, Red Bull is in better shape than Ferrari. Verstappen is there right with Mercedes duo but Ferrari duo are a little back.

So in P2 Vettel has just managed to leapfrog the Mercs but it should be noted that he is on the Softs while the Mercs are running Mediums and he's still less than a tenth ahead...

I dont think these times are too much to pay attention to, Alfas only 3 tenths off so the top guys are running heavy on fuel, impossible to know if they're carrying the same amount.

Ferrari looks a bit of a handful when onboard with Vettel though.

Can we expect a close shootout for pole on Saturday? Seems so. I'd imagine the Q3 engine mode effect won't be as large here.
