2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Please let tomorrow be a fun race. Fingers crossed!

Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
I think at the front it's difficult to see anything other than Mercedes disappearing over the horizon. The best we can hope for is a midfield battle I think. Disappointed in Ferrari who don't appear to have made any progress for all the upgrades they've bought, but well done to Merc for steamrollering on
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Race start could be interesting tomorrow!
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
I was hoping Macca were going to be higher up....didnt they bring a heap of updates also?
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
If Vettel can make it into second place it might change for a bit!Zoue wrote:I think at the front it's difficult to see anything other than Mercedes disappearing over the horizon. Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
they apparently brought the most radical updates of anyone and completely changed their aero philosophy. Doesn't look to have made much of an impact so far but I can only assume they see more long-term potential in itRuste13 wrote:I was hoping Macca were going to be higher up....didnt they bring a heap of updates also?

Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Pit stop strategies as per Pirelli:
(Quickest strategy) Two-stopper:
Start on the soft tyre for 22 laps, do another soft stint for 23 laps, then medium to the end.
Fastest one-stopper:
Start on the soft tyre for 27 laps (managing it carefully) and then switch to the hard until the finish.
Optional strategy:
Start on the medium for 30 laps, then switch to the hard for the final 36 laps.

If Hamilton gets the same kind of start as in Baku I think it might be elbows out this time?JN23 wrote:Race start could be interesting tomorrow!

Me too, but not as much elbows out as 2016.Zoue wrote:I suspect you may be rightpokerman wrote:If Hamilton gets the same kind of start as in Baku I think it might be elbows out this time?JN23 wrote:Race start could be interesting tomorrow!
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Max vs the ferraris could be interesting. Hopefully the mercs can give a decent show between them throughout the race. But I am not too hopeful. Everything points to a borefest.

Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Maybe the front runners crash into each other and we get a interesting race.
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
As Bottas was ahead all the time, I wonder what he would do differently. He would be wrong to push Bottas wide, and would get a punishment if Charlie Whiting was right when he "clarified" this a few years ago.Zoue wrote:I suspect you may be rightpokerman wrote:If Hamilton gets the same kind of start as in Baku I think it might be elbows out this time?JN23 wrote:Race start could be interesting tomorrow!
I hope they both keep their racing as it should be; no contact and no running somebody off the track.

Hulkenberg starting from the pitlane. A bit embarrassing for Renault
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
I'd say idiotic from them not to report the change of the wing in accordance to the park ferme regs. Shot themselves on the foot there. Hulk must be fumingJN23 wrote:Hulkenberg starting from the pitlane. A bit embarrassing for Renault
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
And Hulk is now taking a new PU as there's no penalty with him already in the pit lane.
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Starting from pole in this race seems to be a huge disadvantage because of the long run to T1, I fear Bottas will have to have a better start than Lewis and Vettel to keep P1.

I think it's adding another one to the pool, so when he changes the PU next time, there won't be a penalty.Zoue wrote:I thought he already had a new PU?JN23 wrote:And Hulk is now taking a new PU as there's no penalty with him already in the pit lane.

Tactical error from RIC making it into the top 10 during Q. The 3 place grid drop sees him surrounded by competitors with a free choice of fresh tyres. Expecting him to go backwards quickly.
Disaster for the other Renault too, starting from the pitlane.

Hamilton was fully alongside Bottas any other driver and he wouldn't have been so concerned about the them having to back off for the barrier.Fiki wrote:As Bottas was ahead all the time, I wonder what he would do differently. Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Not sure that's something to be proud of, tbh. Forcing a situation where the other driver has to decide to quit or crash is not something I'd recommendpokerman wrote:Hamilton was fully alongside Bottas any other driver and he wouldn't have been so concerned about the them having to back off for the barrier.Fiki wrote:As Bottas was ahead all the time, I wonder what he would do differently. Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
excellent start by Hamilton
Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
It's what drivers do when they have got position for the corner, the start was as predicted, better to start second and Hamilton got his elbows out.Zoue wrote:Not sure that's something to be proud of, tbh. Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
Bottas needs to chase Hamilton all the way to the finish if he wants the belief that he can beat Hamilton to this title.

Re: 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Race Thread
great start by Max looking at the replays. Went from 5th to 3rd in the blink of an eye

come on Ferrari if Leclerc is faster than vettel then release him

Vettel dropping back from Max quite quickly. What has happened to his race pace this year?
