This was the least excited I had felt for an upcoming season since I started watching F1. That was because I was getting nervous that sky wouldn't do a reasonable offer with NOWTV. They now have done a season ticket for £195. Unless that had come, I actually think I will have skipped all the live coverage of races that were not at the most convenient time and just watch the highlights. I only found out that they had this offer today so I'm actually excited knowing i will be watching it again.

DannyRic (as always) looks really happy and interestingly enough, I didn't think Abiteboul would be equally as happy. Doesn't sound like Renault is cracking the top 3 this season though.

Hamilton getting a few customary boos. Really this isn't needed & that even at the season launch!

As a few might've known, Racing Point were getting many upgrades for the inaugaral race of 2019. Here are a few:

Just seen on the TV guide for UK viewers - channel 4 have got Billy Monger co-presenting with Steve Jones, DC and Webber this weekend.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he does and finding out if he will be a regular if he does well.

Super early days, but there seems to be very little between the top 3 cars. Leclerc is pretty much shadowing Vettel already.

Surprises of the session seem to be Red Bull (who would have guessed Verstappen to be so close to the top?) and Renault (who would have guessed Ricciardo to be so far behind?).

I suspect (read: hope) Renault were performing heavy runs for much of the session, though.

Ricciardo had his best lap spoiled by Grosjean, there seems to be a lot more adverts this year?

I keep thinking that Kimi is still at Ferrari. The fact that he’s in the top 6 in this session doesn’t help.

George Russell would have done better to have started his F1 career as the medical car driver, I feel he could have set more competitive times in it.

Abiteboul said that nothing can be assumed from Renault's results in FP1.

The pace difference in fp1 from this year to last is similar in the mid field to last year.
The top 3 are tighter and Williams are further back.
But the mid-field pack are a similar pace difference from last year to the top.

Looking good so far for a potential 3-way battle at the front. On a side note; that Honda engine is looking pretty strong. I predicted they would clearly be the third best power unit and it looks to be the case. McLaren are in real danger. The PU is not competitive at all and they are still finding their way with the chassis.

The average position of the 4 Honda cars is better than the average position of the top 4 Mercedes cars. So statistically speaking they are the second best engine.

Yeah I was just explaining why Ricciardo was that much slower than the Hulk, at the moment it's just practice, we aren't going to know the true speed of the cars until qualifying.

If it continues, Kyvat edging Gasly could end up being the talking point of the weekend.

True but there's the Merc engine and then there's the MERC engine.

Indeed some early predictions of Gasly being better than Bottas might turn out to be wide of the mark?

I wonder what the philosophy is behind Pirelli blowing the tyres up like balloons causing overheating problems, it doesn't exactly encourage the drivers to go racing?

Looking at qualifying last year they were in the 1-21's so the cars are actually a long way away from what they are capable of at the moment.
