This is pretty awesome.
Live on stage.

I've liked the new music from the start, but I'm curious how other people's opinions have changed (or not changed). Looking at the comments for the video on YouTube, I saw quite a substantial number of people who said they hated it originally but now look forward to it.

It's as insipid now as it ever was. And thus it ever shall be. ;)

Of course, people have great powers for conditioning and so some who didn't like it grow to fondly attach it to the wider picture of F1 in general.

Generally, my views on music don't change (even since childhood).

I thought it was good, if perhaps a little unnecessary when it was first introduced. However, having seen how they're using it as part of the broadcast I've dropped the 'a little unnecessary' part from my opinion of it. It won't ever be this one (not sure whether it's even supposed to be or not, but that's basically what I compare it to!) but I do like it in its own right.

And the conductor has windswept hair to fit the theme.

That music is so 80s that listening to it transported me back in time. I now feel the need to don parachute pants.

Didn't think much of it from the start and still don't. It seems to dilute the suspense rather than amplify it, in my view.

I don't mind the music. I do mind the silly "hero-worship" close-up photos of the drivers used in the video developed to use the music. I don't need to see the pimples on the end of Max's nose, thanks. I would prefer instead a compendium of F1 racing moments through the years.

That is the absolute worst theme music for any Motorsport genre I have EVER seen. Good riddance! Lol
It evoked no passion or speed and the logo forming from bits is one of the most terrible pieces of animation have ever been aired on television, and I mean like EVER!

I get that it transports people back to a time they cherished in the sport, but it is a complete and utter atrocity compared to what’s been done since.

This new theme song is magnificent in every regard. It communicates speed, agility and most of all intensity, which is what sport is all about. I think he knocked this composition out of the park and is flawless. The part after the pause when the cellos kick in quietly and intensify little by little gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

Having said that, my favorite intro will always be SpeedVision’s intro which was well produced by the network specifically for the series and is that excellent in every regard, but still not as stupendous as the new one.

SpeedVision intro: https://youtu.be/gJf5NNK9IjI

It was modified and tweaked every season, featuring new sound bites and little audio additions.
I ripped it from an HD Broadcast I found online and it’s been my ringtone for about 6 years.

The music is fine, but it just doesn't fit f1 for me. It conjured up a strange cross between the struggle of Chariots of Fire and the atmosphere of Pirates of the Caribbean in my mind!!!!

Really minchy?

Chariots of Fire music is slow and methodical. This has build up to it, high, lows, speed, adrenaline and control.
IDK if it's that I grew up on stage listening to, and singing to scores like this, but I totally get every little nuance Bryan Tyler so eloquently wrote into this piece.
This really is brilliant.

Not the Chariots of fire music, more the story of the film. The music is where I pictured pirates and the kind of epic high seas voyages. It did tell a story like you said, of working towards victory and fighting to win. It's just not f1-esque for me. F1 media mainly focuses on individual drivers and the music sounds like it does as well (kind a story of individual hardship, training and struggle towards perfection), but in f1, drivers are nothing without the teams. The last drivers who 'rose through the ranks of f1' as such, were Alonso and Webber (possibly Vettel). All others are basically either paying to be there, getting funded by bigger teams in the smaller teams or remaining stagnant for entering the sport in teams fitting their talent (be it top tear, midfield or lower teams).

I guess what I'm saying is that the music to me sounds like it fits with an individuals journey, rather than a team effort with the members of that team starting their journeys at different times within said team. There is no i dividual journey in f1 and it is the teams more than the drivers that make champions (although drivers do help - hence the 'would Hamilton have won in the Ferrari' debate !). I think that's why the instrumental from The Chain works so well for me as a theme for f1, it reminds me of the actual race - the build up, the battles and the relief of crossing the finish line. It doesn't

But at the end of the day, that's the beauty or music, it affects each of us differently and we each find different things in it.

I hate it. Pompous and bombastic nonsense. The kind of thing that sounds like it should accompany one of those awful CGI film battle scenes. This sounds like music written to a brief that was comprised of series of ticked boxes. Dreadful.

Mildly off topic, but does anyone know a list of all the opening themes F1 and the major affiliated networks have used? I was thinking of running a poll for which is the best, but I'm sure I don't know all of them.

I really liked the composition straight off the bat & still like it.

I actually thought with Australia having the most pathetically boring and uninspiring national anthem in the world, this'd be an the perfect score (is it called a score?) to write a new one to.

Channel 9 F1 intro, Australia late 80's.

Also remember Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" and Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" were also used during the Australian GP telecasts back in the day.
