Hard to think of a season where a top drivers had such skewed luck compared to his rivals as Ricciardo this season.

8 retirements, all of which have arguably not been his fault (I mostly blame Max for Baku, for the accident itself and the over aggression in the build up). Bring in Monaco and thats 50% of the season he's had race ending issues.

Ferrari told Vettel over the radio that Raikkonen was going to the end (on about lap 70, so he was hardly going to stop then) and what his time was. Vettel responded 'well done'

If they get anything from Honda, anything at all over what Renault has been able to give, they will be dominant next year. Their chassis is the best in F1 since 2009, nobody has been able to match it.

Wow Merc were just nowhere in that race. It's a tame way to clinch the title but I doubt he'll care right now. However this may well worry Merc for next season. That's two races in a row where they have struggled badly to maintain the tyres.

The Mercedes/Hamilton combination have done a far better jpb that Ferrari/Vettel, despite the cars being roughly equal (although I do believe the Merc is still the car to be in)

Congrats to Lewis! WDC and driver of the year. Top performance and he's now into rare company indeed with championship number 5. He and Mercedes will still need to focus on securing the WCC. The car hasn't looked great in the last two rounds so they still have some work to do.

For Vettel, I felt he was driver of the day. Cracking race from him but it's been a disappointing season. He'll want to see the top step before the year is done just to be able to move forward on a more positive note.

Great day for Max today though and it should have been a Red Bull 1-2 if not for the failure to Daniel's car. Max was the fastest guy all weekend and while Daniel stole his thunder on Saturday, Max performed to his best when it mattered most.

I'm gutted for Daniel though. This season has been an absolute nightmare for him and it's starting to get ridiculous.

Not this year it hasn't been. The Ferrari was quicker yet again here and but for a rough patch between Singapore and Japan, they have been quicker for most of the season. For most of his titles with Mercedes, Lewis has been fortunate to be in that car. This year (and really last year too) Mercedes have been fortunate to have Hamilton behind the wheel as they would not have won without him. Every now and then these guys show you why they get paid so much money.

You could tell by the James Allison interview he said the same thing, when the Mercedes wasn't competitive he basically said Hamilton was able to make them competitive.

It was another race with Bottas absolutely nowhere. I know the car wasn't ideal here but jeez he just seemed so slow.

Very up and down race by Bottas, but clearly more on the negative side. His start was good. I think vettel pushed him a bit too wide but was fair enough. But after that, his first stint was poor and he lost 10 seconds to Hamilton in 10 laps. Once he pitted, that gap to Hamilton remained between 8 and 10 seconds the whole time. He either wan't bad here or Hamilton was struggling. Bottas then locked up like hamilton and they both pitted. I can't remember exactly what happened and when but Bottas seemed to keep that 10 second gap to hamilton for quite soem time over the race. But then really quickly let that drop to over 20. Pitted and then closed the gap from over 30 back to 20 again. But overall, Mercedes seemed to struggle and Bottas especially seemed well off. It was a shame as he looked like he was certainly going to beat Kimi initially, same with Hamilton.

What a race? but this race also highlighted the gulf in F1 right now Mercedes struggling on tyres and the others could not get close.
