Hello forum, I haven't been around for few years now but I've been a member for a long time and I'm still a massive F1 fan, my question is can you walk up those beautiful tree clad hills that surround Monza like you can in the English lake district for example? They look fabulous. I'm thinking a week in Italy with the Grand Prix as the main agenda but some extra exhilarating days to compliment the racing, anyone done Similar? I'd like to read your suggestions if so!

The ones you see when looking down the straight are the Alps. Quite a walk away!

Cheers Asphalt_World, good observation old friend, I wasn't proposing to nip up and down between sessions though, I've been into the alps in Switzerland and France but the TV makes them look like foothills, but I guess it's perspective and a lack of snow at the summits, still id like to hike up there though.

Well worth it. My honeymoon started in Bellagio on Lake Como. We then drove the short distance to Monza for the F1 weekend before heading around Italy for a couple of weeks.

Alias! It has been a long time.

There is always Maranello & Modena... not that big of a trip from there... then again, that is coming from one who lives on the high plains of the USA where 2-300 miles is just nice drive!

Hi there, you ancient septic you. Your ancient Limey friend from Oz here. How about this for a lack of class? Me and the boss are touring Italy next year, but we're going to neither Monza nor Maranello*. I'd love to but the boss is a woman not to be crossed.

HOWEVER!... in my defence, we're going to visit Lake Garda. Those of us with a few miles on the clock will appreciate the connections Lake Garda has with speed.

* But here's a thought if you and I ever win the lottery... I'd love to take the MGB to Italy one day and apart from visiting Maranello and the Ristorante Cavallino, I'd love to do the 1955 Mille Miglia** route (as far as is possible today) but I'd need someone to share the driving!

** You and I know who smashed them that year. My only ever sporting hero. Still is.

My honeymoon was almost that. Once wed finished at the F1, we followed the rough route of the Mille Miglia, although I know it used different routes over the years, to discover lots of the northern half of the country.

Remember your hero was mine then as well, I read Jenkinson's account of that race almost yearly.

save your meal money, my good friend... The food at the Cavalino is not that impressice, but the photos are! I'd be all-in on the Milli Miglia retrace, Brescia awaits! Make that a Big lottery win and we can see what we can find of the Targa Florio too.

Lago di Gardo is a beautiful drive though.... Maybe you should get an Alfa Guilia rental car for your trip.

Here is a suggestion for your trip... Leave the Boss and your credit card in Bologna and then you zip over to the museums.. Ferrari, Enzo, Maserati, and Lambo... They are all in about a 30 mile radius. One more thing, get your Whatsap working and use it! I want pics.
