Bottas had the faster card w/ 11 laps fresher tyres but his job was not to challenge HAM but to keep Kimi at bay. So simply unparalleled is quite the hyperbole.
If that's the case, why did he try to pass him? I agree his pace is unparalled.
The order came ~T4, and that's when he backed off.

I need to listen to the radio message again but kind of neither. It sounded like they called him in, then told him to stay out, then got back on the radio to say come in again but by that point he had got past the pit entry so couldn't box.

They were just lucky he had got past the pit entry when they called him in the second time.

Bottas would have been a sitting duck on old softs for Kimi and Max... Lewis not pitting is the turning point there. I reckon they gave him the first few corners to have a go at Hamilton and then called time on it when it looked like they were going to get really racey.

Bottas did not have the pace to pass Lewis at the end. All he might have done is cause a crash. He only got a run because he had a good restart. Once the tires were up to temperature, he was way off Hamilton's pace.

As far as the stops, Mercedes seemed to be totally confused. They completely screwed it up. They didn't have Bottas's tires ready and really, they should have stacked them and put both of them on new tires. They actually told Hamilton to come in but he didn't! If he had come in, he would not have won the race.

It was a no brainer. He would've finished 4th without the stop. Remember they tried to pit Hamilton as well but he bailed.

I think it is a bit silly to colclude he was well off the pace after he got told not to pass. He knew all he had to do was get 2nd. So he didn't need to take any risks at all and just hold Kimi off, which he did.

Well Hamilton can't control how his fans feel. And it's a bit different to laugh at Lewis who didn't have any control of the events vs Vettel now crashing by himself.

No he actually dropped back into Kimi's DRS range several laps after the order. He was never within range of Hamilton's times. He was not on his pace at all. You should be honest about this instead of constantly looking for anything to prop up Bottas.

I do think Bottas was quite a bit slower, not only in those final laps where he actually had fresher tyres than Hamilton, but even in the 1st stint after Ham sliced through the field he was faster than Bottas who had a steady, clean race at the front.
Then at the end, ok you hold station, but you don't want to fall back 3-4 seconds behind and 1 sec to the one behind and risk an attack...He also locked up once. I don't think he was taking easy.

still have no clue what proof you have. Why did Bottas need to take any risks at all. There wasn't any point driving close to Hamilton if he knew the team didn't want him to pass. The speed he dropped off showed that he must ahve chosen too. Then it remained just under 4 seconds for several laps. Mercedes clearly told Bottas not to push. From what you are saying, it seems like you don't even know this. Sorry to say, but if you think I'm defending Bottas too much, I think you need to at least mention that he was told to not challenge Hamilton. There is no evidence what Bottas's pace will have been at this stage if no orders had beed used. It wasn't the start along that Bottas looked better at. It was over quit a bit of the first lap. Hamilton did a great job at defending, but when Bottas got this message, he responded instantly. You can't compare the pace after that.

Who on earth cares who laughed at who? There is alwaysan element of schadenfraude in sport and motorsport. I'll leave that sort of thing to the twitter stans.

Merc needed that fortune as Hungary is probably going to ve a tricky race for them. Their best bet may be Red Bull disrupting Ferrari, doesn't seem likely though.

It was exciting race. I think Ferrari called Kimi so early to block Hamilton but apparently he was not going to stop and was ahead of Vettel. I think Vettel was behaving like a cry baby. He should have got to DRS zone and overtake like a deserving champion rather than complaining about loosing temp on his tyres. Anyways it was pretty shocking that he crashed as he is one of the best in such conditions.

Not sure how Vandoorne from last finished higher. I thought he had some car problem and Alonso finished last instead :?
