The more interesting part is that Mercedes were adamant, he should come in and he overruled them and stayed out.
Bottas (and Kimi) would be massively quicker. I suspect both them might pass him, and the off chance of Max having a go as well.
Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
Merc are stupid if they let Bottas get by. Don't make the same mistake that Ferrari did last time.

Hamiltons just run off now

Bottas' poor racecraft shown again there, he just can't hang with the top guys in wheel to wheel situations.
Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
And Ferrari once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. Or is it just Vetter?

tbf, that radio call was quite questionable, with bono giving conflicting messages

? Ferrari's mistake was not letting the driver with fresher tyres past.Ocon wrote:Merc are stupid if they let Bottas get by. Don't make the same mistake that Ferrari did last time.
I agree it would be silly because Hamilton is their championship challenger, but your reference to Ferrari doesn't make sense.
Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
Maybe Vettel could win the championship if Lewis had to start from the back every time. I think that's why he was so angry, he knows this was his chance to distance himself.Maranello1 wrote:That would be true if the weather was like this every racefrankwer wrote:Hamilton is a far far superior driver then Vettel. Bottas taking team orders like a boss.

The battle makes for more entertainment and fate owes Bottas a win. But from a championship standpoint, Bottas needs to be a blocker to Kimi and allow Hamilton to win.Ocon wrote:Merc are stupid if they let Bottas get by. Don't make the same mistake that Ferrari did last time.
Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
Hamilton much faster on much older tyres. His pace is simply unparalleled.

I meant that Ferrari should have made Kimi let him by that time not long ago, I can't remember which race it was.Black_Flag_11 wrote:? Can you imagine Hamilton getting given that message had Bottas got past? Not a chance in hell he would have complied. Same with Kimi/Vettel earlier in the race.VDV23 wrote:Bottas taking team orders like a boss.

You'll never be a championship challenger with that attitude.
Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
I don't think Bottas did anything wrong. He had a go and Hamilton positioned perfectly.Black_Flag_11 wrote:Bottas' poor racecraft shown again there, he just can't hang with the top guys in wheel to wheel situations.

He has been superb all race. I know he got lucky with the events in the race, but in the wet on slicks he was by far the fastest guy and he kept it on the track. One of his best wins in the making me thinks.blhsing wrote:Hamilton much faster on much older tyres. His pace is simply unparalleled.

It is a response to how much performance the Ferrari has shown recently. Every point crucial.

Reverse positions with Bottas in front and Hamilton behind and Hamilton gets past. Hamilton would have braked that little later or got on the power that little earlier out of the hairpin etc.Laz_T800 wrote:I don't think Bottas did anything wrong. Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
Bottas had the faster card w/ 11 laps fresher tyres but his job was not to challenge HAM but to keep Kimi at bay. So simply unparalleled is quite the hyperbole.blhsing wrote:Hamilton much faster on much older tyres. His pace is simply unparalleled.

Wow! Vintage Lewis these last couple of races. Hard charging and to pull off a win from 14th is no mean fete. One of his best performances all around.
Gutted for Seb. Really he wasn't being careless there. He just got it slightly wrong and was punished mercilessly.
Great season!

I think Bottas could have been more agressive, it's just that he was afraid of doing anything that could jeopardize Hamiltons race.Black_Flag_11 wrote:Reverse positions with Bottas in front and Hamilton behind and Hamilton gets past. Did Hamilton or Mercedes make the decision to not pit under the safety car?

If that's the case, why did he try to pass him? Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
what i don't get is why they pitted Bottas and then tell him not to pass Hamilton. Was it a way to allow hamilton through? 'm not saying Hmilton didn't deserve the win, but again, Bottas has to suffer from not being able to try and attempt to pass throughout the rest of the race. At this stage of the championship, I guess it was right to limit what Bottas did. But again, given he had a chance to win before he pitted, I'm unsure the reason why things went the way they did. Unlucky again.
