Conversely, Kimi is showing some decent race pace for once. I'm in shock

He got held up by Ricciardo pitting which gave Vettel a run on him

Max's rear tyre looks a bit ropey now...

No fan of Hamilton, but pray tell me how was it winnable after the VSC debacle? Is Hamilton hiding 8 seconds worth of time that he needed before his stop, up his pickle?
We've seen plenty of overtaking in this race. Hamilton has the fastest car and fresher tyres. It was possible for Hamilton to overtake the three cars in front of him.

Surely if Max pits and Kimi has the chance to win the race he will tell Ferrari to shove it, the guy hasn't won a race since about 2011.

He's just so lack lustre. For a top line F1 driver you'd expect better. You'd never get Schumacher just giving up for 15 laps.

anyone notice how the front runners are having wildly varying lap times? Models of consistency they are not

Agreed. It's like he gave up for a bit and then decided he may as well give it a go

Mercedes has a long track record of not being able to follow closely despite superior pace. You're lacklustre for not being to recognize this obvious fact.

Not aimed at anyone currently online (I think) but anyone coming into race threads just to say the race will be terrible and boring because F1 has sucked since the 90s or whichever decade one may choose will find themselves unable to keep bashing the sport for the rest of the race.

IF he hadn't thrown away 2nd place at the beginning then he would have been, yes. Don't see it now, though. I see him finishing 3rd at best...

Why didn't Hartley just drive through that huge gap and away from the trackside?

He also let Vettel catch and pass him. Merc made an error but that doesn't excuse Hamilton's poor driving.

So big question is if Max' tyre lets him down and Kimi catches him, will he perform a suicide move to prevent an overtake and maybe take them both out

As a lewis fan I have to admit he has not been great today. The Vettel overtake was unacceptable. He fell asleep for a few laps and let Vettel take advantage of him, did not even fully close down the inside line.

Hamilton's tyres were shot following too closely to Raikkonen. Yes Mercedes is that bad aerodynamically at following closely. You're just a hater for not recognizing this simple fact. Keep bashing on hater.

First time I've been described as a Hamilton "hater" .

Your powers of perception are almost as lack lustre as Hamilton's driving today.

Just because a car is designed to be fast in clean air doesn't mean it's equally fast in dirty air. That you can't recognize such an obvious fact shows your ignorance and willingness to hate on a driver's character.

Hamilton was on course to be 31 points clear of Vettel early in the race, now he is one point behind. VSC strategy + both cars having mechanical issues = terrible day for Merc.
