Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes today had 2 rear lights that were fitted on the endplates of the rear wing, similar to LMP1 class of endurance prototypes. The 2 new lights work independently of the rear light near the exhaust. Don't know if they're aimed for wet weather visibility or just for general usage.

Its probably for wet weather, because the ERS harvesting light and the wet weather lights use the same light which is far from ideal.

They are for Max.

To be honest, I am not sure even the teams would want this as it tells everyone following driver the exact breaking point of each corner, which is a huge advantage for the following driver.

Was under the impression they are for better visibility not brake lights

I think they will also flash in line with the marshall's flag system, so yellow, red etc. Seems like a good idea.

Seems like a waste that, given how light LEDs can be, some teams haven't moved to have LED-lit sponsors on their cars. I reckon it'd be a great move, especially for night races.

I think every race should be a night race, with the white lines on track replaced entirely with LEDs.
