Please humour me, it's a quiet time of year for F1 excitement so my brain has got working, which is quite dangerous!

The year is 2022, following Red Bull pulling their 2 teams out of F1 before the 2020 season, they have launched their own motor racing series, Formula X.

Looking at fan feedback, the series has been designed with the fans as the number one priority.

Championship CEO Christian Horner, former team manager of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, charged Adrian Newey to design a new racing car with the philsophy of being less aero dependent than F1 cars and focus on mechanical grip. This enables the cars to follow much closer to each other and not have to rely on overtaking aids such as DRS.

The series is made up of 12 teams running 2 cars each. All cars are identical to ensure closer racing. The engine in all the cars is supplied by Aston Martin, thanks to their close technical links with Red Bull Racing. The engine is a normally aspirated V10 revving up to 19,000 rpm. It is designed to be almost identical to modern day road supercars so the engines are cheap and reliable.

The series is held over tracks which no longer feature or have never features on the F1 calendar: Imola, Istanbul, Magny Cours, Fuji, Laguna Seca, Bathurst, India, Jerez and Indy are some examples. As well as the Red Bull Ring, of course!

The race weekend comprises of 2 hour practice on Saturday morning. A qualifying race, where the grid is reverse championship order occurs on Saturday PM. No points are awarded for this race and is half the distance of the main race.

The main race is held on Sunday afternoon with the grid reflecting the result of Saturday's qualifying race. Points are awarded to the top 10 finishers with 2 points awarded for fastest lap.

As the series is operated by Red Bull, all races are accompanied by a round of the Red Bull X-Fighters and Red Bull Air Race taking place on Saturday evening and Sunday morning respictavely. Every weekend isn't just about the race but is billed as a Celebration of Speed. A true festival atmosphere on and off the track with events all weekend.

Modern day supercars are getting to hybrid mode and smaller engines...

Also, are there going to be grid girls??

I'd probably watch the first race, and if they managed to attract some top drivers I might very well watch another from time to time. But it wouldn't have what attracted me to F1, so it wouldn't replace F1 for me.

Did I just see the words 'Adrian Newey' and 'less aero' in the same sentence?

Yes...
1) All car numbers to be covered with Red Bull stickers of the same or larger size.
2) All drivers required to drink 3 Red Bull energy drinks 15-minutes before the start, plus one at every pit stop before car can leave pits.
3) All pit crew persons to copy driver consumption...
4) All LIVE TV race commentators will drink 5...

You wrote you wanted it exciting for the fans...

Since F1 can't think outside the box anymore, the obvious "wish-list" change escapes them...

If you want closer racing, do away with the wings, or at least 80% of them. Return to ground-effects underbodies, sans wings at the nose, same width rear wing as today, no barge boards, etc. Keep DRS if you want, it doesn't matter to me. Then we'll see which driver can handle a racing car.

Yea, that will do it.

Spec cars running on outdated race tracks with second rate drivers... I don't see how this proposed series would fare any better than A1GP did.

Yuppers, we witnessed A1GP, which withered and died after a few years.

Personally, my addiction to racing supersedes any loyalties to any team or driver. Even now, I watch many other racing series compared to Formula One because I am disappointed by the low quality of on-track battling.

It's a flawed premise to start with.
I think that based on the threads here about any sort of change it's pretty clear that what would be a "Formula for the Fans" to some would be a horrible idea to many others.

This is the absolute truth. 'The Fans' represent an enormously diverse group in terms of interests, and there is absolutely nothing that would please them all. Taking the ideal formula from one half would just kill the sport for the other half.

I mean, my ideal formula would be to open development as much as possible, make the cars faster, allow refueling, allow a tyre war, allow just about everything, and whoever builds the fastest car wins. But the people who consider it a driver's championship would probably not be in favor of that.

agree with your wish list,

As much as many would love to see this, money is the main issue with this type of motor sport series. We would end up with the highly financed teams dominating the series year after year.

As we all know for a motor sport series with unlimited development capitol is king. Which is why so many other motor sports go the stock car route. Racing Packages are similar and cost is relatively easier on all teams across the board.

I'm much the same, although not a fan of refueling. But on the larger view having it as optional might be interesting.

A lot of times though you also see people with conflicting wishes. Like being dead set against spec cars yet being driver focused.

It might be interesting, and I would probably at least watch a few races, but it wouldn't replace or even compete with F1 for me. It would be missing a hugely important component of F1, and that is the car development.
