2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
Looks like Hamilton will be a road block for Vettel to help Bottas secure 2nd in the WDC table.

Yeah but he could a la 2016 i.e. keep Vettel behind allowing others to close in on him Lol.robins13 wrote:From Quali threadUnlikeUday wrote:Looks like Hamilton will be a road block for Vettel to help Bottas secure 2nd in the WDC table.robins13 wrote:Vettel just needs to finish 8th to get that 2nd place in WDCUnlikeUday wrote:Could Hamilton be sacrificing pole to get in between Bottas & vettel? Hamilton could still win tomorrow though. All depends on the start.

Re: 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
Yeah forget about Hamilton helping Bottas. Bottas is 22 points behind, he would need the win and an abnormally bad race by Vettel to do it. Unlikely.
The race tomorrow will be decided at turn 1. Hamilton slowed down last year and Rosberg never even hinted at attacking him. It's pretty much impossible to overtake like cars here.
If Bottas is holding up the field then Merc may interfere with team orders because they are not going to want to lose a race to Ferrari. So as long as Bottas has a good start and is quicker than the Ferraris I reckon it will be a win for him.

Re: 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
Hamilton can win tomorrow in a straight fight. Is it a one or two stopper? I hope Mercedes let them run different strategies.
Even if they run the same strategy, I would not rule out Hamilton overtaking Bottas on track. Bottas always struggles on the other tyre, like Nico used to in 2014. Especially when he has good qualifying pace.

Re: 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
One stopper I think and yeah there is usually 1 stint Bottas struggles and with the newer PU in Lewis's hands I'd back him to get the job done with a pass or through the stops too.lamo wrote:Hamilton can win tomorrow in a straight fight. but if they are running p1(bottas) and p2(lewis) do you think lewis would still go for an overtake or just waste his "speedy gonzales" engine by holding station and enjoy the scenery.lamo wrote:Hamilton can win tomorrow in a straight fight. If he's faster he'll go for it. I doubt he'll fancy a 2nd title winning season in a row where he fails to win the last 3 races.lucifers wrote:but if they are running p1(bottas) and p2(lewis) do you think lewis would still go for an overtake or just waste his "speedy gonzales" engine by holding station and enjoy the scenery.lamo wrote:Hamilton can win tomorrow in a straight fight. Re: 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
I think you need to be about 0.7-1.0 second faster per lap to overtake in AD. Hamilton is going to be able to run more laps in the higher modes, he just needs to attack Bottas at a phase in which he in unable to match him for engine mode.
I fancy Hamilton to have a big attack either in the first 3 laps, immediately after the first stop or at the very end. The most likely scenario being after the first stop for me.
I think we need Bottas to lead with Hamilton P2 after the end of lap 1 for it to be an interesting race.

pretty cool flyover

Re: 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
Last race already. I particularly remember China (the 2nd round) as if it was yesterday. This has been one quick season
Abu Dhabi rarely ever does it for me. All of my interest today will be around the Toro Rosso/Renault/Haas WCC scrap

Predicting Hamilton to take the lead in T1 with a better launch and the inside line.
Not expecting much of a race tbh, Abu Dhabi is a bit of a downer to end the season on IMO, boring track.

No changes in the first 12 positions. that's pretty unique for a start.
Re: 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
I don't agree with the 5 second penalty for the Hulk, he should give the place back, this is like tactical penalties.

Hulkenberg an idiot for not giving that position back. Now he gets 5 seconds added to his time.

He had the chance to give the place back and declined to do so. It's all his fault that he has a time penalty.pokerman wrote:I don't agree with the 5 second penalty for the Hulk, he should give the place back, this is like tactical penalties.

Never been a fan of these 5 sec penalties. It's not enough of a deterrent

And the manner in which he has been ousted, along with Steve Matchett and Will Buxton means the end of American broadcasting F1 coverage.........., and that really sucks, as noted by Hobbo here: https://nesn.com/2017/11/david-hobbs-up ... rior-show/

Wow...that's a depressing link (although thanks for sharing). I wont be watching F1 next year on USA tv so I wont be subjected to this miserable situation that all US viewers will have to deal with. A real shame for David and Steve. They were a good team. All they needed back was Bob Varsha.F1nut wrote:You and me both.........Herb Tarlik wrote:Possibly the last race called by David Hobbs. Bottas is doing pretty well. However, he usually has one slow stint so the SS stint may be his Botta train stint...
