On pre-Spain form for sure but there was a period after that when both cars were the same spec he was only a tenth or two away when he wasn't ahead. And if you're a tenth or so behind or ahead of Alonso then you're beating 90% of the grid imo so you become pretty hard to drop for a rookie which is why I think it might be tough to choose.GingerFurball wrote:Not at all, if it came down to that the obvious answer would be to boot Vandoorne.Lotus49 wrote:Very impressed with Norris, his stint in the wet was superb too and I think Macca are going to be in a pickle as to what to do for 2019 driver wise.
Of course if Alonso batters him this year then it's an easy choice but if he's hanging with Alonso, say something similar to JB, then would you drop JB? Or try to find someone else to take Lando for a year if Alonso's still around for another year(Assuming it's a 1+1). Then you can save 40m a year and have a Norris/Stoff line up for 2020.
There's a lot of permutations to consider. Alonso may walk, Renault works may want him for '19 if they think they're ready. Dropping Stoff might be hasty and something you regret if you're Macca.
But yeah if he disappoints then it's easy.
