The first few times is justified. Now it's just boring. We get it, the engine is no good. Sitting their whining is not going to make it any quicker.
We're talking about 3 long years of misery & embarrassment!
He personally was not suffering any embarrassment, and $120 Mil might help out with the 'misery' part.

And how is your whining making the situation better?

It's not, and is even more boring than Alonso's.

I've just tuned looked up a P1 report and it says Hamilton set his time a bit earlier than everybody else so the 0.450 is a little overstated? Did he set his time 15-20 minutes before everybody else?

Mercedes could be in with a chance...

P1 times

2014: Hamilton 7th +0.50 (Take pole and Hamilton clearly fastest in the race)
2015: Nico 1st -0.40 (Mercedes have awful pace in qualifying/race)
2016: Hamilton 4th +0.60 (Rosberg on pole and reasonably comfortable win before strategy made it close)

2017: Hamilton 4th +0.45

Feel free to block my posts if they are boring you. Unfortunately, if I want to watch F1, I can't do the same for Alonso's radio comments.

That looks a pretty reasonable time by Hamilton on the soft. I expect to see Ferarri show their hand a little more this session too.

Hoping for a Hamilton pole and win!

Edit: Wouldn't mind Ricciardo to win either.

Vettel is turning it up now on ultra-soft. Ferrari is still the quickest car.

Edit: Not in sector two. Then Vettel is angry at a Sauber.

If you're going to have noise then have engines that bite as much as they bark like the V10's. :)

So Ricciardo put in a mega lap much quicker than Verstappen can do, then soon after Verstappen hits the wall, I think the 2 things are related. :)

Hamilton still in the fight for pole. His s3 time a major weakness though, but his first flyer was only a tenth down on ricciardo. Dont think he got a clean lap after that. So the real gap to ricciardo is about a tenth while not accounting for merc qualifying mode.
Vettel and Ferrari surprisingly nowhere so far. But i reckon they will claw that gap back up by qualifying.
Redbull looks mighty here and should be hard to beat on sunday.

Vettel was on a fast one and set the fastest S1, then a bit slower in S2 before aborting. Think it was him who hit the wall that brought the VSC earlier, but I think they will turn up the heat once they have found the set up. I got a feeling the Ferrari is the car to beat this weekend, hopefully it's the RB or Merc though.

So now he just needs to find a second in race pace...
Should be an RBR 1-2 at this stage, which would be refreshing

Neither Ferrari nor Merc seem to be able to match RBR in sector 2, sector 3 suits RBR too methinks

I missed some of that session, why hasn't vet got a time with the ultras in P2? Ferrari doing the sand bagging thing?? Kimi's time is way off the pace.

Good pace in both one lap and race sim for RBR - Ferrari (or Seb at least) didn't get a fast lap on US in - but this is starting to look like a RBR race to lose - qualifying and more importantly the start could be critical

This wouldn't be too bad for Hamilton, I think going into this weekend most people thought that Vettel was going to win.

Agree on that. Its much better to finish 6th vs 4th, or even 5th vs 4th, rather than 3rd or worse vs 1st.

I'm surprised how many are writing off Vettel, he was 0.1 down on Ricciardo and then on his 2nd run he clipped the wall. Its a track drivers build up time on too, both Red Bulls got quicker and quicker. Vettel was close to them on his first flyer (although the track was possibly slightly better when he had his 1st run). All in all, it seems like Vettel would have been at least 2nd. Still a long way to go but I don't see Mercedes fighting for the win but I think Vettel can and will.

We could have some fun this week. Hamilton is racing the Ferraris, not the red bulls, so if they were in front having their own battle it would be....entertaining.

Might be handy for those who want to get a clearer picture regarding the long run lap times et in FP2:
http://www.fia.com/events/fia-formula-o ... ormation-1

Kindly click on Lap Times under Second Practice to download the .pdf file.

My 2 cents after going through the lap times:

1:46.xxx lap times achieved by various drivers such as Ricciardo, Vettel (initial 2 laps after he began his long run laps), Perez, Alonso (2 laps), Hulkenberg, Hamilton & Verstappen.

Gutted I didn't throw a cheeky fiver on Ricciardo. I'd imagine today will have drastically shortened his odds.

He was 0.5s down after S2 then came across the Haas, he was heading for a time similar to Hamiltons.

Looking at that list I would be wondering about fuel loads and engine settings?

To me it shows Ricciardo is quickest, then Hamilton, Verstappen and then Vettel, Bottas, Raikonnen. Hamilton seems to have better tire deg though. Ricciardo is the only guy that did high 45's, but that was very early in the stint. Towards the end of the stint Hamilton is quicker. Vettel was in the low 47s and not once did he stay in the 46s consistently. Not sure what tires they were all running though. But the consensus is that Ferrari may be on the back foot.

Double edge sword. If RBR stays ahead then the loss is minimal but if Ferrari jump Red Bill then the difference between 1st and 5th exaggerates a difficult weekend.
All hypothetical at this stage.
