I understand. This forum changed its rules and I wasn't aware for which I'm sorry. I have posted quite a few breaking news about driver changes (was only ever wrong in one when I posted about Raikkonen to Mercedes in 2012) and it was never merged with this thread.
No sweat. Coming to the main point, Kubica returning will be such a great news. Williams also wouldn't want to look at any other option besides him.
And you know that... how, exactly? For all we know, he's struggling with long-run consistency, or struggling with his fitness levels, or there are other issues with which he has yet to convince Williams. If Williams can get Robert Kubica as he was prior to his accident then yes, I agree that they shouldn't need to look at any other option. But right now, it seems like they're hesitating to make a decision, instead feeling the need to give him further running. Perhaps that's because they have the best empty seat available and therefore are in no rush at all, but it does make me wonder a little bit if they remain unconvinced.
Apparently it was Kubica stalling on signing the contract, he's basically been offered the drive because of the sponsorship he his bringing to the team, his pride was hurting because he didn't want to be seen as a pay driver, it's something that he has criticised in the past.
Very interesting, where did you pick that info up?

Ferrari indirectly have said 2018 is the last chance for Raikkonen to be competitive.

Leclerc is atleast in the frame for 2019 seat.

I wonder if Leclerc will be given an equal car amid rumours last season that Ericsson was given a car one step better than Wehrlein?

Williams is reportedly "seriously considering" the Kubica proposal, which is why the team postponed its 2018 driver line-up announcement until after the new year.
See, this kind of BS is why I'm less interested in Williams with each passing year.

Considering their priority is money only, Sirotkin will probably get the seat as a billionaire is backing for the drive.

I'd need to hear more about these rumours. Valid source or just Wehrlein fanboys and fangirls? Surely if Wehrlein was outperforming Ericcson fairly solidly in inferior equipment then there would have been more effort to keep him?

Well no.

That's not how the tale end of F1 works. Wherein wasn't let go because Sauber think Ericsson is better.

You misunderstood me. If Wehrlein had been better in an inferior car, then that would suggest a monumental difference in performance. If that really were the case, then they would have made more effort to keep Wehrlein. Even if they also kept Ericcson.

I strongly suspect that the inferior equipment thing is nonsense anyway

I understand. Sauber want drivers with money and Wehrlein doesn't have any. He could be as good as Alonso and Sauber wouldn't have kept him.

But if Wehrlein was as good as Alonso, maybe Mercedes or Force India would have taken when they had the chance?

But I agree, it would a pity to have, say Sirotkin, on the grid and Wehrlein not.

Yes, my point was that performance is not the highest priority on Saubers list so them not resigning can't be used as evidence that he was not getting inferior equipment to Ericsson.

I don't know if he was or not but considering who owns the team it would hardly be a shock.

Sauber were not interested in which driver was better, the team is owned by Ericsson's sponsors whilst Leclerc comes with the might of Ferrari behind him along with a favourable engine deal and close ties with Ferrari.

I'm not going to quote the whole conversation, but re: Wehrlein, what I imagine is that Sauber have to run a Ferrari Academy Driver as part of the Alfa Romeo deal, the identity of which is a 'joint' decision between Ferrari and Sauber in the sense that Ferrari say, "We want you to run this driver," and Sauber say, "That sounds like a great idea," whether they agree or not. Then the other driver can either be someone contracted to Sauber or another Ferrari Academy Driver, something Sauber have more of a say in. But it cannot be a young driver on loan from another team.

I see literally no chance that Ferrari would let Sauber run a Mercedes young driver rather than Giovinazzi even if Sauber felt that Wehrlein was comfortably the best option to partner Leclerc. I'd go as far as to assume there is a clause in the contract that Sauber cannot run a young driver from a team other than Ferrari.

It's a matter of too much time. They've overshot the building anticipation period, and now I'm just sick of the whole thing.

I read in an article & this is speculation regarding the delay. Williams are waiting for the $15 million to arrive in their bank account before they announce the deal.

Latifi has money but how does he become the reserve driver when he doesn't have enough F1 super license points?

"From next season, drivers will also need to have completed six races in Formula 2, or accumulated 25 superlicence points in eligible championships during the previous three years, to qualify for their first F1 free practice superlicence.

Drivers reapplying subsequently need to demonstrate they have completed a full season in F2 or amassed 25 superlicence points during a three-year period."

Surely for a reserve driver to fill his job title he needs to be able to actually start a race if need be.

Once they have the reserve driver position, do they need to meet the same score, or does being reserve driver come with its own free pass for following years? Possibly with a minimum number of laps or sessions to keep 'up to speed' with it?

So following that through you do 6 races in F2 to qualify for a reserve driver role, then do some FP1 sessions and then you qualify as a F1 driver, unlikely I would say otherwise you might as well throw the F1 super license system in the bin.

So there could be a turn over of reserve drivers who never get to drive?
Another money maker then. 10 reserve drivers each next

They're basically paying just to do some FP1 sessions and some testing.
