Top 10 Teams in this century

Which team has been the most succesfull in this century? The score in this list is calculated based on results and number of races. It only includes teams which has finished at least one race in Top 6. That excludes teams like Caterham, HRT, Virgin/Marrussia/Manor, Spyker etc.

1. Mercedes (2010-2017) 0.2839
2. Ferrari 0.2781
3. Red Bull (2005-2017) 0.1857
4. McLaren 0.1738
5. Brawn (2009) 0.1097
6. Renault (2002-2011, 2017) 0.1044
7. Williams 0.0487
8. Lotus (2012-2015) 0.0450
9. BAR (-2005) 0.0185
10. Sauber 0.0164

I wouldn't have guessed that poor Sauber is among the 10 most succesfull teams in this century. But once upon a time (In Peter Saubers time), they were actually quite good. They won a 1-2 victory and has finished on the podium more than 20 times.

It also surprised me to be reminded how long ago it was that McLaren and Williams were championship winning teams. Maybe Ron Dennis wasn't wrong about his statements about having to do something drastically to put McLaren back into contention. Choosing Honda just wasn't the right move...

Here is the rest of the list outside Top 10. This is the teams that "also ran" in this century:

11. Honda (2006-2008) 0.0150
12. Toyota (2002-2009) 0.0140
13. Jordan (-2005) 0.0095
14. Benetton (-2001) 0.0086
15. Force India (2008-2017) 0.0058
16. Toro Rosso (2006-2017) 0.0039
17. Jaguar (-2004) 0.0029
18. Arrows (-2002) 0.0012
19. Prost (2001) 0.0006
20. Haas (2016-2017) 0.0005
21. Minardi (2002-2005) 0.0005
22. Super Aguri (2006-2008) 0.0001

I am assuming you BMW Sauber is being counted as Sauber which is why they will feature.

That's correct. A team ranking is a lot more difficult to make than a Drivers ranking, and I have choosen to stick with the official results stating the team as Sauber BMW and counting them as Sauber with a BMW-engine. Just like McLaren Mercedes counts as McLaren, Red Bull Renault counts as Red Bull and so on.

Yes, It's hard to wear to draw a line in the sand and say either this counts as a new team or it doesn't. It's a shame BMW ditched Fq when they did. They managed to get those Saubers competitive so fast. I think they would have continued to be a real threat had they continued.

Not intending to derail the thread, but this has me thinking how the current constructor's table would look if each team still went by its original name. It's not nice reading for McLaren...

1. Tyrrell - Mercedes
2. Ferrari
3. Stewart - Renault
4. Jordan - Mercedes
5. Minardi - Renault
6. Williams - Mercedes
7. Toleman - Renault
8. Haas - Ferrari
9. Sauber - Ferrari
10. McLaren - Honda

I find it bonkers that Brawn only ran for one season yet comes in at P5. Also ahead of Renault who you'd think would be higher up the table given Alonso's early success with the team.

BAR trace their DNA back to Tyrrell.

Brawn was 2009, and it stands to reason they feature highly given they won the WCC. 100% Success rate in fact!

Yes, Brawn was 2009 and not 2008. It is now corrected. Thank you.

The ranking makes me wonder what Red Bull did right to achieve what so many teams has failed doing? Red Bull came from close to nowhere taking over the mediocre Jaguar Racing, and became one of the dominant teams for more than a decade. Does it all come down to Adrian Newey?

How embarrassing I missed that one out

Ken's DNA lives on!

Your placing of McLaren confuses me. McLaren has always been McLaren hasn't it?

And even if not, if you simply put the original name of team before all the buying of and rebranding of teams, why have you changed McLaren for Jordon, when Jordan was founded as a team 25 (ish) years after McLaren?

If you've done something else, then your description isn't very accurate of how you've made your list.

It's the current constructors championship.

I didn't write that.

Ah ok, I missed that bit in your post (even after rereading it)!
