A great track, with lots to play for.

Hamilton has to win in order to keep the title hopes alive.

Just in case people are looking for them - Stewards reports etc. will be posted here by the FIA after each session:

No idea who I think will win this race. Nico qualifies really well here but this is a race that Hamilton absolutely has to win to stand any real chance at making this title fight interesting to the end. It is a tough one to predict.

Hard to predict any result I find. I'm going to go for Lewis, but it will all come down to the start

I agree with others above that this is difficult to predict. However, I have a gut feeling that this weekend will see Rosberg/Hamilton gain fairly big on the other.

Time for Rosberg to nail it. Tough he can not clinch the title just now, he can get it in Mexico. Just imagine at the stadium in Mexico, what an atmosphere and celebration will it be.... if.

All or nothing for Hamilton, and he can not afford a non finish or even a low finish. I still see it as Hamilton topping 3rd and qualli and win.

This is from Thursday press conference.
Thanks for that. Valtteri, coming to you: what about your plans? I'm sure you're aware that you have now broken the F1 record of Jim Clark for the longest F1 career spent entirely with a single team. Is it time to stick or twist?

Any idea what record they are talking about?

Anybody have a source that Nico has the new specification engine? That seems like game over for Hamilton if true. Diresta and Crofty have said so in the commentary.

If it's a new spec the token spend is usually listed by the fia on Thursday isn't it?.

I know he's taken new parts though so It wouldn't surprise me if they're just saying new spec by mistake.

Clark was with Lotus for almost 9 seasons, 1960-1968. Bottas with Williams?

I can't see it reported anywhere. I should have thought somebody would have picked it up by now if true

Are any of them running competitively? Or have Manor, Sauber and a Renault just been thrown a lifeline?

Tough I don't have a source with me, it was confirmed some 2-3 weeks ago that Mercedes will bring no new updates at all in 2016, as "it did not deliver", what was commented upon as a Mercedes decision not to interfere in the WDC battle.

I'm pretty sure it's races, not years. Bottas has made 73 starts for Williams, which is one more than Clark had with Lotus; everyone who has made more starts with one team (most prominently Schumacher with Ferrari) drove for at least one other team during his career. If Bottas ever drives for another team, Clark will retake the record.

Really surprising as they looked like they had a complete turnaround in Japan.
This is not Vettel's year that is for sure.
With reports they have put his contract negotiations on hold till next year, I wonder if he will make a run for it for 2018.

Yep, way too much!

It was good to see they had removed some of the extra asphalt at Malaysia this year. (Replaced by grass and kitty litter)
I hope the FIA encourages all circuits to follow suit.
It gets rid of the track limit conversation if there is dirt and grass around every corner. Then the drivers have to respect the track just like they do for street circuits where a wall will take them out if they drift wide.

Apart from that it is a great circuit!
The only thing I hate is the time difference. The race is on at 6am Monday morning in Australia if I watch it live!

Why was everyone expecting a Hamilton white-wash? Nico is strong here.

Nico took pole here the last two seasons by 0.4 in 2014 and 0.1 last season.

The midfield look really close again on the long runs. A few tenths separating about 5 teams again.

The pressure's on Hamilton. It doesn't mean Rosberg will take a lighter approach. He has a fresh engine as well.

Behind te big 3, a juicy scruffle between Force India & McLaren. Williams could struggle this time around as their car is just a ghost of its former glory on 2014 & 2015 years.

Qualifying will be interesting, but given recent events, not as important as the start. It looks like RBR has a good package here. Perhaps they can put a bit of pressure on the Merc and further spice things up.

Haas seem to have taken a step lately, I wonder if that's down to the Ferrari upgrade to the PU at Monza or if they've brought aero upgrades lately.

Would be surprised if it was aero this late considering the size of the team and the rule change next year but something seems to have brought them back into the midfield fight.

Should be quite a good qualifying then, RB look like the might challenge the Mercs, Ferrari aren't a mile away either. FI,Williams and McLaren look close with TR and Haas not too far behind at all.

Should be good.

I have a bad feeling about this race for Nico already :(

Please let them decide it on the track with no reliability issues in the next 4 races

Yes because up to now it's been an 100% fair fight, or maybe it hasn't?

Past is the past now everyone should hope for everything to be decided on the track with exciting races to the finish. Then we will see who is the best at the end.

You're right. Abu Dhabi 2014 wasn't an 100% fair fight so let's hope that now it is.
