Simon Pagenaud gets back into championship mode after taking a win at the Mid-Ohio 200 in Lexington. But at the same time, he also had to survive a practice crash on Friday that left him with a sore back, and possible upset bids from Mikhail Aleshin and Conor Daly. 5-time event winner Scott Dixon suffered a blow on lap 15 after he collided with Helio Castroneves damaging his left front. Mikhail Aleshin became the big surprise leader at lap 17 after going off strategy when he pitted early. And with the leaders taking service for fuel and tires, he assumed the lead for 25 laps before retaking it on lap 45.

On lap 60, Jack Hawksworth driving the #41 car of AJ Foyt racing careened in turn 1 after having a tussle with Marco Andretti causing him to go right on the grass launching him into the tire barrier. And the hopes for Aleshin to become the 1st Russian driver to win an Indy Car event evaporated when the Left Tire changer gave the go signal before colliding with the #21 car of Josef Newgarden and striking a crew member of Juan Pablo Montoya pit stall. It resulted a double penalty. 1 - To re-start from the rear and 2 - a drive-thru.

That left Conor Daly leading the race at lap 63 and could only go 21 laps before taking fuel relinquishing the lead to Pagenaud. He also survived another local yellow when Takuma Sato and Sebastien Bourdais in turn 4. Sato continued but Bourdais race was done.

Will Power and Carlos Munoz complete the podium with defending race winner Graham Rahal crossing the line to 4th. James Hinchcliffe completes the Top 5.

Conor Daly took rookie honors with a 6th place finish along with fellow rookie Spencer Pigot for his best result in 2016 with a 7th.

2013 Mid-Ohio winner Charlie Kimball finishes in 8th, Takuma Sato and Josef Newgarden rebounded to complete the Top 10.
