Toto Wolff has repeatedly said he's fine with Lewis doing whatever he wants as long as it doesn't impact his performances. That hasn't changed so I find it very difficult to believe Lewis' activities away from the track are suddenly going to be so much of an issue that they'd drop him for Monaco.

If Wehrlein wins in Monaco in a Mercedes, I'm taking the following week off.

They probably saw that changing drivers mid-season is a guaranteed win. They can also get Maldonado back.

Or if Haryanto outqualifies Hamilton by half a second then obviously we have proof that Haryanto is faster than Rosberg.

Hamilton likely replacement in Monte Carlo?

The Mercedes AMG Petronas team would not have liked some of the behavior of the British world champion, in Monte Carlo that could be replaced by Wehrlein

Francesco Colla 20 May - 10:36

Mercedes Formula 1 Hamilton 0

Lewis Hamilton is the rock star of Formula 1. It can be said without fear of contradiction. If Vettel runs in the van, Lewis guide (also) a Pagani. And he loves the good life and the beautiful world is a friend of the most famous pop stars, has the skin covered with tattoos, the private jet, attends fashion shows, is the testimonial of various brands from the fashion world. But Circus is certainly more that of James Hunt and time to a report on Fulvio Solms Corriere dello Sport today, Mercedes may not have liked some excesses of the pilot followed the disastrous Grand Prix of Spain, which began with the accidental ramming against fellow rosberg that at that moment driving the race. After the Barcelona weekend the reigning world champion flew to Cannes, where he is holding the 2016 edition of the Film Festival, jumping tests at the Montmelo although the team had asked for "cooperation in Hamilton, furious that the official version It involves a sharing of responsibilities. Mercedes perhaps even asking - to aim at most of these tests and give an image of unity - to stop at Montmelo and turn the day originally intended to rookie Esteban Ocon (the other day is already provided for Rosberg ). however, Hamilton did not change their plans: healthcare company and his plane brings him to Nice. "

Lewis Hamilton, the rock star of Formula 1

Then the night between Monday and Tuesday on the French Riviera would happen something that would alter the Mercedes leaders, who convened Wehrlein to replace Ocon and train, who knows, with a view to replacing the upcoming Monte Carlo GP (and which also impose , according to the regulations, the team to be excluded Hamilton also post Silverstone test). There is talk of "a very long evening of Hamilton at Gotha Club Cannes, return to the hotel in a form not brilliant. Maybe stolen photos." What is certain is that the relationship between the sample and the team are at historic lows.

So the reason being given is that Mercedes requested Hamilton to come in the car, as was his job, but he refused to change his plans from Cannes and partying? Some world champion we have.

OK, while the rumors of replacement might look premature, the text still sheds some light on the current issues between Mercedes and Hamilton. Would be interesting to see what follows up.

Well I'm a Hamilton fan and if this is true then I think Mercedes have a right to question his priorities.

However did not quite a few drivers miss the tests, how important is it for the race drivers to be present?

Not very in all honesty, a few weren't scheduled to take part. I think the main issue would be Lewis was scheduled but then for whatever reason was pulled.

EDIT: Actually was Lewis even scheduled?.

It seems to me like a lot of speculation based on Ocon being replaced by Wherlein.

I know this sounds bas as a headline, but he may well have sponsors commitments at a place like that where the worlds press are. (He may not and just going there for a blast though  )

No he wasn't. Ocon was scheduled for the second day (as teams have to use a junior driver on 2 of the 4 testing days this year) however he was pulled at the last minute and Wehrlein ran instead as Mercedes wanted someone with more experience to run for them.

That ties up with the story saying Mercedes wanted Hamilton to test on the second day, but as pointed out above the theory in the article could have been made up by working backwards from Wehrlein replacing Ocon on the second day while Lewis was partying etc.

Either way to me it seems pretty far fetched for Mercedes to have even briefly entertained the idea of sidelining the current WDC.

The testing stuff is utter horse poop, Mercedes have already scheduled Lewis for the Silverstone testing and as the rules states its a pro driver and support driver for testing both Nico and Lewis cant run at the same testing.

If anything this was to test Werhlein against Nicos performance at the same track in the same car.

I think Merc are going to play it like this, if Lewis wins the WDC Nicos contract will not be renewed and Werhlein will be his replacement. If he does win the WDC then its a new contract and they see how Lewis goes next year.

Actually, you're wrong. The teams have to dedicate two of their four days of in-season testing to young drivers (defined as a driver who has taken part in two or fewer GPs) but are free to decide how they allocate those two days. Force India, for example, ran Celis Jr. for both days. Haas went in the other direction and ran Grosjean and Gutierrez for one day each. It was nothing at all to do with Mercedes not being allowed to run both race drivers at one test (and by running Wehrlein - who doesn't qualify as a young driver as he'd done more than two races - they now cannot run Lewis at Silverstone).

That won't work it would be to late in the season for Nico to get another drive if Mercedes don't renew. He would be stupid to wait that long.

As Jenson's Understeer said, Mercedes can't test with Lewis at the Silverstone test anymore now that they've used Wehrlien as he doesn't count as a junior driver.

They will need to run Ocon both days or a different junior driver.

I think it centres more around Rosberg's contract rather than whether he wins the WDC or not from Mercedes's point of view, I do believe rumours that he may be looking for the same money as Hamilton and I do believe that Mercedes don't agree.

Reading into this now it sounds like they tried to reschedule Hamilton for the test because there was certain things they needed doing and they needed an experienced driver but Hamilton said no because he already had commitments so that went with Wehrlein instead and they are not happy with Hamilton, or

They needed an experienced driver and simply went with Wehrlein because Hamilton was not pencilled in for it, or

Because of disagreements with Rosberg's contract negotiations they decided to test Wehrlein against Rosberg to see how he compares just in case Rosberg decides to leave.

Yeah you're right, and I just read elsewhere he was scheduled for and doing promotion work on that day anyway so i'm not even convinced they asked him at all.

Daft story is daft.

What is apparent now is that Hamilton cant test at all due to them using pascal, during testing the Mercedes facebook group even stated that Lewis would be testing at Silverstone as it makes sense for his fans etc when people where moaning about Nico favouritism. But no testing at all unless they can get around it with pascal being from another team??

I have a feeling that there is little benefit to the race drivers themselves in going testing, most of it is donkey work.
