Wacky, Genius, odd and downright silly F1 bodywork

I'm interested to see if anyone has any links, info or images for F1 bodywork or plans that were a little bit out there. This could be on actual F1 cars, wind-tunnel models, blueprints, computer graphics or even a drawing on a napkin.

I know that Honda had some pretty crazy looking wind tunnel models running prior to the 2009 season before they pulled out.

Ideally things like wings, noses, sidepods, scoops, bolt on bits or anything else that might have been dreamt up.

How about this - http://oppositelock.kinja.com/this-is-nice-1722741708

Williams 1997 Monza wing.

To be honest this is hard to beat though -

Actually Mikey, it's quite EASY to beat the dual tusk Lotus…

There have been countless odd things tried on F1 cars and some that were potentially insanely good, were subsequently banned by the FIA after other teams lodged complaints against them and we never got to see much of them. Lotus' double decker floor is one of the more recent ones but it wouldn't have appeared radical as you couldn't see it. If you search the web for odd F1 cars you should find quite a few weird, odd and certainly UGLY things. LOL

The Tyrrell 012 is a car that had a bunch of wild concepts all incorporated BEAUTIFULLY but it didn't set the world on fire. It went through several revisions and in the end sported a more traditional rear wing, but it never looked as cool.

That rear wing looks spectacular. I haven't seen that in ages and had forgotten about it. I like the stealth bomber style (that's what it conjures up in my mind anyway).

Mclaren tested a high nose in 1990 after Tyrrell used one that season:

March 711 had a coffee table for a front wing:

Love the Mclaren one! Really doesn't look like a lot of thought went into that!

I always liked this rear wing Williams experimented with on Villeneuve's car at Monza in 97. As far as I know these stills from a video are the only images of it.

That rear view mirror on the Eifelland, they can incorperate that with the new halo structure!

Surprised nobody posted the Arrows and Jordan revisions for Monaco in I think 2001.

Just remember, guys, sources for images need to be posted.

They should incorporate a rear view mirror style display from a rear view camera into the halo structure. Then they can use the same feed for the broadcast rear view camera, so you can actually see what the driver sees behind.

Williams FW07D & FW08B six-wheeled prototypes with two driven axles at the back (instead of the front like the well-known P34). Gave some very interesting and encouraging initial results: lower frontal area, starts without wheelspin, excellent handling in the wet with maybe the possibility to run slicks on the rearmost axle as the axle in front cleared the water.

FIA regulations banned six-wheeled cars before Williams could race them.

Also, the March 2-4-0 with the same concept:

^^^ Someone please fill those tires! LOL

Yeah that Williams is one that's lost in the history of shelved F1 concepts.

As ugly and slow as those cars were that shade of green is awesome.

I disagree. The original Green they used was GORGEOUS!!!

This is a mucked up travesty of the original color in an attempt to separate themselves from the original British Racing Green and is atrocious in my eyes. It loses all character with that minty *inaudible* change in hue.

I used to run solid Rally Green (essentially British Racing Green) on my RC cars when I raced as a kid/teen and everyone knew who it was tearing it up! LOL

THIS is the right color!

I'm glad you said it! Totally agree with you F1 Merc!
