1st female F1 pioneer has passed away

The motorsport community are in the mourning for the passing of the very 1st F1 female pioneer.

Maria Teresa de Filippis - who raced in 5 different GPs and finishing 1 race - has passed away this week.

She was 89.

I remember this wonderful advert that Maserati made some years ago that features de Filippis and it was this I thought of when I saw the news that she had passed away.

That Maserati/Maria de Fillipis advert on tv was great. Brave of her to race those big cars in 1958. Jean Behra was especially kind to her, always giving advice and helping.

I only just saw it this evening. Lovely! I must say I also like that photograph of her a lot. Being accepted by the Maestro himself, what a great example for hopefuls, female and male.

I have read Behra was a mentor to her. Him passing away was the main reason that made her retire from autosport.
