I used to watch the whole thing on C4. I don't bother on Sky, it's so dull most of the time and like you've said you can find the info you need to find online and usually presented better as well!

I tune in to Sky F1 purely for the qualifying and the race, nothing more most of the time.

I'm actually looking forward to watching the full coverage on C4 on Sunday (I'm out all day Saturday so will miss being able to watch quali live anyway). For the first (and probably only) time this year I am making a point of finding time to watch it all......

Although C4 is live I wonder whether Sky will still have their C4 embargo in place and won't let me them broadcast from the pits/paddock, etc?

Pretty sure this doesn't apply this time. Think they can do their own interviews. If you look at the tv times, I think the race coverage on sunday is 12:55 to 17:30. That is a good 4 and a half hours. Don't think it would be that long if they used sky's interviews after. Also, I don't think there would be enough to do with an hour and 15 minutes before lights out if they were not allowed on the grid.

This time, we should be able to enjoy the C4 coverage without the irritating restrictions sky have forced them to use this year.

I have never looked forward to practice sessions so much recently. But finally i am as i won't have to listen to crofty talk rubbish!

England are in the world cup final and that will float between channel 4 and more4. The British grand Prix will be shown on C4 though.

I have to say that I agree with Hamilton in that the scheduling is atrocious. A lot of people will be interested in all three big sporting events on this sunday and it's unnecessarily diluted.

Ok there was no guarantee that England would make it to the cricket world cup final and Australoa vs New Zealand would not have posed such a dilemma. But the wimbledon final date is set in stone, the British GP could easily have been another weekend.

Completely agree with this. As someone who wants to watch all three, I'm quite annoyed.

Wimbledon and the British GP is one the same weekend most years I think, it's just bizarre scheduling.

My TV Guide is now saying that more4 are showing cricket from 12:55 to 16:50. Channel 4 still says all the F1 coverage is on Channel 4. Including all of it - it runs from 12:55 - 17:30. I don't see anything about cricket here on the guide despite retuning the freeview box. I want to record everything. It is less than 2 days until the race and does anyone know what the TV times and channel schedule is at what times?

Edit:

I have just seen some changes on channel 4's guide.

https://www.channel4.com/tv-guide

Looks like F1 coverage is now 13:10 - 16:45. And it looks like none of the extra coverage scheduled from before is going to be shown on more4......
That is an entire hour less coverage than what looked to be the case a few days ago.

Anyone correct me if i am wrong - i hope i am!

I'm not I would trust the online guide.

Search the freeview schedule you are right it is on from 13.10 to 16.45 but note it is 3 separate programs running concurrently, I think you may have to record all 3 depending on your box.

In addition on Channel 808 it is showing 14.45 - 17.15 for F1 coverage. That will not show on your online C4 guide and is longer obviously.

More 4 is also duplicated on channel 810 on my box.

well, in terms of how it was presented and what they covered, Channel 4 beat Sky by a long way this weekend. As in comparing this to sky from previous races.

But i noticed the same problem as yesterday during the race. I tolerated is as the race was exciting enough to distract me most of the time. But there is a big problem with one of the microphones in the commentary box. And I think it is DC's. This awful high pitched hissing/buzz. By the look of it, virtually nobody seems to have noticed this other than me, or at least not commented.

I noticed it in qualifying too. it started about 4 minutes in. In both the race and qualifying it totally went whenever they cut out for an interview with a driver. Pretty much explaining that it is something at the commentary box. I rang channel 4 yesterday saying that I hoped they could fix this before the race, but they didn't seem to have sorted it out. I must be incredibly sensitive to these things. Just before the race started when they were lining up on the grid after the formation lap, the crackling hissing buzz was nearly as loud as the commentators. Some kind of interference on the line? Maybe it was too high pitched for most to notice. Although i do use high end headphones and maybe it can't easily be heard on what the average person would listen on. I tried with 3 tv's and cabletv. All sounded awful. The pre and post race show was fine.

Luckily, a lot of the time, the action on track and the amount DC and Edwards said distracted me from it, but it sort of ruined it for me in between.

Anybody else notice this?

If its just you hearing it, id check for a feedback loop/interference of some kind in your own set up.

Given that it is only there when they are using both the mics in the commentary box, i don't think it can be my own setup, especially since i have heard it on cable and freeview. Also, whenever they would cut off their mics, for example - when there was an interview with a retired driver (grosjean), this noise totally stops, then starts when they join back with DC and edwards. Exactly the same happened in qualifying when they did a driver interview. This issue was not there in practice.

I am really into my audio and am really sensitive to high pitched sounds many other people don't seem to hear. Someone I know could barely hear it even though it was nearly the same volume as when they were speaking. Luckily it wasn't too loud the whole time, but it was really bad at times. I think I'll have to get back to channel 4 and ask about it. I am certain it is a fault with one of the mics or some interference at their end.

I think you may only be able to hear this sort of thing if you are young and listen to it on high end audio in a quiet environment as it is rather high pitched - a bit like the noise old CRT TV's make. That may be why many didn't notice it but i almost switched over to sky at one point.

This talk is probably a bit too off topic for this forum, but i just wanted to know if anyone else noticed.

I had no problem at all, but I asked my 16 year old daughter if she could hear anything, she can hear the high frequency cat scarers and even some bat calls but she couldn't hear anything.
If you are into sound it may be that your system is picking up a frequency that the standard TV speaker cant reproduce.

You recorded it so why not see if it is reproduced on the recording. Or go to the C4 catchup site channel4.com and see if it comes over on your laptop speaker.

yea done all that, recorded it and it was the same. I also tried recording it on another tv. It is certainly all the same. And I'm pretty certain that if people were as sensitive to high pitches sounds as me, they would have noticed :D

Eating your words this morning perhaps after one of the most extraordinary World sporting finals ever?

It was one of those days when you will ask what were you doing when England won the cricket world cup in 2019.

Tied after 50 overs, 300 balls each.
Tied after deciding super over.

England won because they simply scored more boundaries.

Quite simply the BEST CRICKET MATCH EVER!

It certainly was. I've been watching Sky all year due to C4 not getting any live races - and it was great to be back with Channel 4 for a race. Even Eddie Jordan annoyed me less than Crofty does

And to think that I thought David Croft was a million times better than James Allen all those years ago. I'd give anything to swap Crofty for James Allen now.........

We've not forgotten Bodyline ya know O or P. Our guy's will have angle grinders shoved down their duds when the ashes start.

Seriously though, I was happy to see England & New Zealand in the final & it was one of the best games of Cricket i've seen. Truth be told too I was kind of glad Australia got done. They deserve a few years in the wilderness after South Africa.

We all move on Jezza, it was great to see a spectacle like that. I love the rivalry of an Ashes series and I'm pretty sure it will be a close one now you've got you key players back.
I've sympathy with the Kiwis who were brilliant at defending a small total but not too much, after all there is a rugby World Cup approaching this year.

Channel 4 have upgraded David Coulthard, says Steve Jones at the beginning of yesterday’s qualifying highlights. I hope that was a joke with David off temporarily as I prefer the Channel 4 team to the Sky one.

Both Coultard and Brundle are missing this week. I believe the crowning of Coultard as the President of the BRDC? An outstanding choice. :)

And yes, obviously a joke as Coultard owns the company that employs Jones. Always think its an interesting dynamic when they are co-presenting. You are trying to anchor a program watched by millions whilst the boss is sitting on your shoulder.

Channel 4 say they are showing an extended highlights show on Sunday from 2:20 to 4:55: https://www.channel4.com/4viewers/formu ... age-update

So they are showing quali and race back to back rather than allowing more race coverage I presume.

Hmm, extended by just half an hour? To add in qualifying, they should have more than that. Will likely be because sky won't let them have longer as they may be worried about the number of viewers channel 4 will get at this time :P

I wasn’t sure how long the show was usually. It wouldn’t surprise me if Channel 4 got more viewers due to the time difference. Who knows what they are showing then, perhaps just a few clips of qualifying and then talking about the result. Half an hour should be easy enough for them to fill without changing the schedule again should the grid have to be taken from FP2.

which is why i am questioning why they are only adding an extra half hour to the program tomorrow - which is for qualifying and the race. Qualifying is usually an hour and a half.

Channel 4 covering all sessions next weekend, including highlights in the evening. Very nearly 11 hours of live f1 coverage (excluding adverts). I assume they also will have all the access to the grid they usually are not allowed so their pre and post race stuff also should be interesting.

You wonder if David Coulthard being president of the BRDC and Martin Brundle a mere Vice President has anything to do with grid access at Silverstone?

Well, they have been there since the highlights of the Austrian Grand Prix. You could even hear when DC and Edwards were commentating for that race that the whole crew shouted when Albon got hit by Hamilton making me wonder if they don't commentate in a small room.
