Re: McLaren change livery

It's a cool livery. I like it better all the time. Side pods still look empty with no sponsor...
I agree with both of youNeed4Naiim wrote:Livery will start to look good once McHonda start to win poles and races. .Underviewer wrote:This livery (just like the old one) makes the Mclaren look like a car produced by a team at a very low point. Much like the Manor car. You see the Mclaren on the track and automatically think "oh dear, they must be struggling". I know it makes no difference to how fast the car goes, but surely they want to make a good impression to people watching - to make it seem like they are a good 'brand'.
At least we'll always have JordanExediron wrote:And if the McLaren-Honda cars of the 1980s hadn't been so dominant, I highly doubt as many people would remember that livery fondly as seem to do so. Iconic liveries are almost always just whatever a fast car was painted as; heck, the Silver Arrows weren't painted at all to save weight, and somehow even that became iconic. The actual artistic merit of the design clearly has nothing to do with it.Laura23 wrote:I don't think the Brawn livery is iconic on it's own tbh, the entire story of the Brawn team however is because they were successful. Had the 2009 Brawn performed like the 2008 Honda then that dayglo livery would have been remembered in a similar light to the EarthDreams claptrap.

You say that like it's a bad thing?Blackhander wrote:Haha! Daylight it looks like a hotwheels or remote control car from the 90's
That should be Cylon, right?moby wrote:cucoloco wrote:Draw some teeth on the higher red stripe
Looks like a cross between a Zylon and "KIT" from Kightrider
if so, then it also should be K.I.T.T.mds wrote:That should be Cylon, right?moby wrote:cucoloco wrote:Draw some teeth on the higher red stripe

Awesome series
My inner 5 year old likes it that's for sure. It's got more character than the old paint job, although it does seem only from directly aboveGrizzly B wrote:You say that like it's a bad thing?Blackhander wrote:Haha! Daylight it looks like a hotwheels or remote control car from the 90's
i wouldn't be surprised if liveries were designed with camera positions and grandstands in mind...Blackhander wrote:My inner 5 year old likes it that's for sure. Last year in Austria i was sitting in the first row in the first corner and i was able to see the sidepods from above, which is why i said it... of course, it wasn't overhead but i'd imagine it should be enough to see the orange... main grandstands are typically way higher, so it should be ok... hopefully...Blackhander wrote:Apparently not this one. Sure occasionally there will be an overhead helicopter shot when they are fighting for position, but generally is from level to maybe 20 degrees above horizontal tops and front, side or behind. All of which you can't see the sidepod tops.
Edit: this is of course conjecture and I could be proven wrong and pleasantly surprised once we see it on track.

True, on track I would imagine it would look quite impressive from the stands. I don't not like the new scheme, but think it could use a bit more for when seen from the sides. But they're probably keeping that space spare for all those title sponsors they're attracting...egnat69 wrote:Last year in Austria i was sitting in the first row in the first corner and i was able to see the sidepods from above, which is why i said it... of course, it wasn't overhead but i'd imagine it should be enough to see the orange... main grandstands are typically way higher, so it should be ok... hopefully...Blackhander wrote:Apparently not this one. Does make it look pretty.JohnnyGuitar wrote:Typical McLaren matching the flo-viz to their livery!

I've been working on a new McLaren logo and livery for about 18 months now as a side project (I work in advertising). Its meant to be an evolution of what they have, capturing the original Bruce McLaren liveries, as well as the more modern Marlboro / West / Vodafone ones. I've floated a few concepts on here before, but its now at a point I feel is finished. I'm planning to send it out to F1 journalists and hopefully try and get it infront of someone at McLaren.
Check it out here, I'd really like to hear what you all think of it.

^ I'm proposing a new logo on my site which moves away from the swoosh, so thats why I didn't include it in my livery.Lotus49 wrote: That's a very nice livery, great job. I like the race suits too.
One thing I would suggest would be on your overhead shot if you added the McLaren swoosh on top of the side pods in your Orange/Papaya colour. They seem to be rather keen on having that.
^The idea is that the orange areas would be that dual tone paint like the newer TVRs have, so it would look like a mixture of orange and red. I'll check out those race overalls though see if they give me any inspiration!Need4Naiim wrote:@elektrobanks
Nice work buddy, especially the racing overalls. For the race car, that exhaust section can be a darker tone of orange. Remember the livery of Williams 2005? a scheme with black for the blue section, silver for the silver section, orange-copper for white section, again a silver but combined BMW "twins" on the nose can be another idea for your template. For race suits, i fondly remember:
2014 Force-India, 2010 Renault, McLaren's 2011 Germany qualifying and 2001 BAR-Honda.
