The rules are the same next year. Merc likely to be the dominant force for at least another two seasons.

Hopefully the Mchonda will produce a race winning car by the end of the season. Doubt anyone else will likely catch up, maybe ferrari.

Alonso won his titles racing just one guy as well, 2005 against Raikkonen in an unreliable McLaren and 2006 against Schumacher. If his McHonda didn't break down all the time and was as dominant as the Mercs I doubt we'd hear a cheep out of you about things being gifted...

Many, if not most, disputed F1 titles were ultimately won in a 2 driver battle. I dont really get the point you are trying make.

That isn't the issue, the issue is having such a dominant team that, barring a major turn of events, will totally dominate the sport for 3-4 years if not more. This will be even worse than the RB era where at least Ferrari took the fight to the last race two times, something that appears to be painfully impossible this year same as it was last year.

Quite frankly, given the experience in 2014, I am not really looking forward to the "santized" and politically correct "non" battle between LH and NR. LH will win easily enough, the only thing that made it close last year were LH's reliability issues and the current ridiculous point system.

If you are a LH fan I can understand you looking forward to a season like this, but any F1 fan in general can't be happy with the way 2015 is starting to look. I don't recall that being the case neither in 2005 nor in 2006 preseason where, quite the contrary, expectations were rather high as far as I recall.

I have crystal ball, but it's always wrong ;)

I wonder how many teams were able to maintain dominance through big rule change? From what I remember recently in past 20 years it's 0. Of course Mercedes can still be very good, but there is huge difference between being very good and winning titles. Another thing is whether new rules will change much of design and whether the change will actually happen.

This season would be more exciting if the main deciding factor in the cars (engine) wasn't restricted for development during the season. At least when Red Bull had dominant runs, any team smart enough could copy it. Not with these engine rules. It's sad knowing who will be WDC and WCC before the first race weekend.

I think it's looking likely that there is going to be 1,000HP PU's, much wider rear tyres and talk of more downforce as well, although i'm not a big fan of too much downforce and seeing cars glued to the track, also it creates too much wake and makes it harder for a car to keep close in a corner and thus makes overtaking a lot harder.

Thanks to the deadline loophole engines will be improved during the season until all the 32 tokens are used, the development restrictions were put there to stop a spending war, there are already complaints that the engines are too expensive.

The whole cost reduction debate is a bit lame when they dish out prize money so asymmetrically. Maybe if they redistributed it much more evenly, with the winning teams only getting a small percentage more than the back markers, we wouldn't need to control costs so much.

But regardless, wasn't the W05 was the single most dominating car of all time? Ferrari of the early 2000s, the Brawn 001, and Red Bull of the past few years weren't even close to the performance differential that the Merc had last year.

This engine freeze rule is dumb. There are plenty of other ways to reduce costs in the extravagant F1 world.

Depends on how you measure it, but probably not. Most dominant of recent history certainly, but if you look back into the 60s and 50s cars with an advantage of multiple seconds a lap weren't all that rare - the difference is that they were balanced out by terrible reliability, so even with the most dominant cars you always knew someone else would manage to sneak a win or two when they ran into trouble.

Probably the most recent car that was faster relative to its competition would be the Williams FW14B, which was capable of qualifying as much as 3 seconds ahead of the nearest other car - and that car driven by Ayrton Senna, mind you.

judging from rosberg's lap, the final podium place will be the main event.

What was the calculation you did? Combined sectors, or was it more of an estimate? And if you can apply it to the other cars, what sort of ultimate pace do you get for the rest?

I would agree with your general sentiment in that I would like to see a couple of teams ding-donging for the wins rather than just a couple of drivers. However, we have to accept that Merc have done a great job, not only with their PU but designing the car for such a PU - and remember they were in the dumps whilst they 'developed' up to this point. I'm not a fan of outright dominance - but in the words of Horner, when RBR were eating up the field, and I'm paraphrasing, 'it's up to the others to improve'. So, yeah, this year may well be another walkover (ok, it almost certainly WILL be!) - but it is up to the others to improve. Certainly the likes of Williams should be able to jump up a few tenths given they have the same PU and seemed to have a good 'base' car last year. I would love to see Sauber having real pace too - but I'm guessing their recent testing pace is glory seeking?
So long as we do see some genuine racing through the field, I will still enjoy the season - and if we see some proper battles between Ham and Ros that will also make it one to enjoy. Just my view.....
Roll on Melbourne - can't come soon enough for me, as I want see the likely real pecking order.

You have absolutely no way of determining with any accuracy what possible lap time the Sauber is capable of, so attempting to speak about this with any authority is disingenuous on every level. Not entirely sure who you are trying to convince here mate.

Are these times here correct?

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/ ... 16847.html

If they are then Kimi Raikkonen should be in 8th place. I just am not sure which one to trust as that is the official F1 page and it could be incorrect.
I am just wondering why all the other drivers times are in order other than Kimi's.
There could be a reason so I could be wrong.

Don't worry THAT much guys.

If in this 2015 season Mercedes remain as dominant, F1/FIA will make sure they make all the possible regulation changes to stop/hinder Mercedes in 2016 (because two highly dominating seasons is more than enough). They've always done that and they will keep on doing it for the good of the show and the competition.

It's youth problems. Honda engine apparently (if the rumours are true) is already more powerful than the Ferrari/Renault engine, and has similar figures as the 2014 spec Mercedes.

If that is true here is an interesting question, would you, as an F1 driver, prefer a fast but unreliable PU or an average reliable one?
