That was a great documentary, good insight in to the man, not just the driver.
Liked the part on the second video where JEV passes the RB, he says "That is it for JEV, he is out of Toro Rosso!" as a joke as if that pass sealed his fate.
A little before that when he is looking at the race start he talks about how bad Rosberg start was and then he says "Oh look I have been squeezed" talking about Kimi closing the door on the first corner, then he says "No problem, nothing has happened, revenge is always served on the finest dish" and right after he says "now lets look at the huge pass I put on Kyvat on the outside". This guy is a ruthless racer, its a shame he does have some blemishes on his career, maybe influenced by people around him.
He also spoke about (if I understood correctly) how his father used to drive 17 hours from Oviedo to Madrid to the kart races and drive back all night so he could be on time for school on Monday, and that shows how important having family support is.
My opinion of his as a racer has not changed, but outside of the F1 world, he seems to be a pretty down to earth simple guy.

Re: My last race with Ferrari (Fernando Alonso - Documentary
Yep, I only speak just a bit of Spanish and really didn't understand much of what was said. Still, I found it to be a fascinating and touching look behind the scenes into the life of an F1 racer on a GP weekend. It got a little dusty in here toward the end of part 2, for certain.
Clearly Alonso is loved not only in that team, but by others around the paddock, and is not the divisive, disruptive figure that many would make him out to be. He clearly isn't afraid to show his affection in return. Just a fantastic show, whether or not you're an Alonso or Ferrari fan, imho.
It was also nice to see the way he and Mattiacci got on well in contrast to published rumors.

Re: My last race with Ferrari (Fernando Alonso - Documentary
When they interviewed the King of Spain by himself the King tells the press that Alonso IS going to McLaren, Alonso later confirms, for those out there still hoping he is not, or still need confirmation. When he gets away in the golf kart with the King, Alonso asks "what brand is this Golf Kart?" Not clear who, but somebody said McLaren! LOL!!
Also when they are in his "room" at the track, he tells his guys "we are taking everything that is ours and also our earnings", or "what we have earned", I sort of make this as a jab at Ferrari, as "I am taking the money" but might be the way he said it, my Spanish is a new world accent, is not from Spain so some phrases we give different meanings.

Why was he swapping helmets with some of the drivers?

When they were getting into the golf cart the king asks what kind of cart is this?, Renault, McLaren?
He does later spill the beans as to Alonso going to McLaren and when asked by the reporter Fernando replies, and there you have it, the cat is out of the bag, thus confirming his move to McLaren. Now the question is, who McLaren will announce tomorrow will partner him. I hope it's Button.
I'd love to know what exactly Fernando gave to his crew chief towards the end. Was a great indication how my Fernando meant to them all. I wonder if Felipe's farewell last year was similar in how Ferrari went all out to make a one off overall and Ferarri branded shirts for everyone. Was a very nice gesture by Ferrari.

Several drivers do this as well, and it's not just F1 drivers who swap helmets with their piers.RunningMan wrote:He has a collection of them.redballs wrote:Why was he swapping helmets with some of the drivers?

Very emotional moment when one mechanic says to alonso: "I understand that you left us,but now you have to win,if you go,please, make this for me,go and win,and demonstrate what you can do"
A living legend...amazing the moment when all the mechanics are around him asking for an autograph

Alonso congratulating and hugging Hamiltom and his family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-oFMnTtpqU
What Alonso is saying in the voice over as he walks into the mercedes room is: "When you win you celebrate and when you lose you have to congratulate the champion. Hamilton's year has been extraordinary, I want to give him a hug."
Before anyone jumps on Alonso's back for not doing it to Vettel, he also did hug and congratulate Vettel after Vettel won his World Championship in Brazil, 2012.http://youtube.com/watch?v=ituWmcNPtUU

Thanks for the Marco Mattiacci translation you provided in the Official Alonso thread

Re: My last race with Ferrari (Fernando Alonso - Documentary
One interesting thing is that he's come to feel that speaking up at the driver's briefing can only get you on the bad side of the race director or stewards, so nowadays he tends not to say anything.
He was pretty upset about qualifying 10th - last place in Q3.

Re: My last race with Ferrari (Fernando Alonso - Documentary
I was told on Autosport that it's in the works. I've been waiting. I really want to see it as I really enjoyed part 2 even more than Part 1 ... even without being able to understand the commentary. Just a fantastic look inside an F1 driver's life behind the scenes on a race weekend. It's a bonus that I'm also an Alonso fan, but I'd love this no matter what driver was the subject. Maybe someone should start a series like this.cheetah wrote:Is there a part 2/2 with english subtitles available?

Great and thank you for sharing. Something very humble about the documentary and Alonso himself.
Looking forward to a new era of Alonso-McLaren- Honda
PS: Some great 'one liners' in there too
