Re: Silly Season 2019 (Updated - Perez stays with Force Indi
Not if Russell proves to be a star, then he could replace Bottas in 2020. p.s. yes Mercedes would buy out his contract to do so. That's simply not the plan though, Russell has been parked at Williams for the next 2 to 3 years. Same plan football teams have when a valuable player is nearer the end o...

Kubica in the Williams would be good long term as let's face it Ocon/Russell will only be marking time waiting for the call up.

Re: The Official Lewis Hamilton thread
I would place Vettel behind Hamilton, Alonso, Verstappen, Ricciardo. Like others before him and after him he was in the right car at the right time, another Newey flyer. His qualifying is better than his racing. No lower than 5th but then again what about Rosberg ? ... ;) p.s. congrats to Lewis Hami...

Alonso kind of pressured them to drop Honda and now he's leaving ! At least Honda were paying them ! McLaren have been delusional since thinking they couldn't win with a Mercedes engine. At least they know now that they actually got to build the best car too before worrying about the engine. I reall...

Perez, Ocon, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, Alonso but frankly it's very close and any of them could do it. Avoiding mishaps and some luck too maybe needed. Probably the most interesting part of the WDC now.

Re: 2018 Japanese Grand Prix Race Thread
Senna was equally bloody-minded in his driving and it was not an endearing quality, Verstappen has the same disease unfortunately. I think it disqualifies Senna from being the GOAT and ruins Max's hopes of ever attaining that status. Ricciardo makes him look silly most of the time with less inherent...

Leclerc by at least an edge if not more. Vettel is now potentially fighting to retain his seat now that his Kimi comfort blanket is leaving. If Giovinazzi does well against Kimi he could take his seat in 2021. Arrivabene thinks Vettel is great but in reality he's fluffed two seasons now in which he ...

Why did he need to do it there without DRS when he had done so well so soon with the majority of the race still in play ? The guy has just not learned since crashing into Webber and Button. So Kimi was let go by Ferrari at Monza and then started asking around and now joins Sauber in a pure driver role although he will do their PR no harm at all with his legacy and history in the sport. Leclerc > Verstappen > Ocon.
Max's racing judgement is still terrible and sadly he still doesn't think so which negates to a serious extent any innate high speed he has. Leclerc is the closest modern driver I have seen to Jim Clark, ultra fast and ultra smooth. Ocon is quick but nothing special.

Oh Vettel did have a sub-par season. That much is for sure but the fact is that, even during a sub-par season, a driver is not slower than they normally are . Mercedes just have to give Williams a sweet engine deal for Ocon. Unless you find a gem of a young driver like Hamilton it will cost a team to place a younger driver elsewhere in this age of pay drivers and sponsorship.

If Sauber were worried about having the best young talent Ericsson wouldn't be there for years. Also why should they find a seat for a Mercedes young driver ? Re: Leclerc confirmed at Ferrari; Kimi returning to Sauber
Sauber and Kimi is a good fit as he is a tidy fast driver who will maximize points in the mid field. I think Vettel will prefer this too in time as Leclerc will be a clear No.2 who has to follow team orders. However if he can keep another car in between him and Vettel team orders will be irrelevant ...

Kimi is still quick enough for a mid-pack team but he probably doesn't deserve a race winning car any more. We all get older and slow up, no disgrace. He probably could still beat Grosjean and Magnusson though in the Haas, it's just that in a potentially title winning Ferrari he's getting exposed as...

He will do a whole season in a spare rebadged Andretti. This is just the build up but that is where his heart has been leaning since the Indy 500 attempt and winning Le Mans. Yes, Ferrari has a driver problem, I agree. Alonso was the answer before, hopefully Leclerc will be the future answer sometime. TBF to Kimi when the tyres are fresh he's really quite fast in the 2018 Ferrari but today was not ideal as he probably won't get a better chance to win a race this year. F...

This video shows Alonso's right front tyre heading directly for Leclerc's head and then being bounced away by the Halo. I don't think you could get a clearer demonstration of its real life utility.

The Halo deflected Alonso's right front tyre away from Leclerc's head to which it was on a collision course, without it it would have gone down like Senna unfortunately.

Alonso dodged a flying car or two so he knows the benefit of more head protection, Leclerc could have been lost today too. The Halo works and should stay until something better is invented. I think he wanted Bottas/Kimi seats but for his long term motorsport legacy I think Indy will be better, just imagine if he has as much effect as Mansell and the cars there are more equal so he will have more fun. Definitely will go back to watching every Indy race again now if he's there.
