Re: Jacking the car from the side
What do they mean by "powered"? I thought the front jacks were pneumatic? They are not powered. Some teams use a mechanical release to drop the car, but the jacks themselves are basically a manual lever. But, still, what do they mean by "powered"? Surely even a person operating a lever means it's p...

Re: Jacking the car from the side
This is incredibly different than a racing pit stop. Yes it is, I suppose Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, BMW are just messing about building millions of cars You're a funny guy. The question is not whether or not a robot is capable of installing a tire/wheel, but the TIME it takes to do so. In an assembly ...

Re: Jacking the car from the side
The ultimate (rhetorical) question would be "Will the FIA allow other means of lifting the car during a pit stop than a manual jack???" 23.5 No powered device may be used to lift any part of a car in the pit lane during a race. http://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/regulation/file/1-2014%20SPORTIN...

Re: The Conspiracy of Ferrari and Renault
Ferrari and Renault teams are blaming the regulations for their poor engines when they only have themselves to blame. While you present a fair argument there, it is not the root cause of the issue. The TRUE issue is the engine freeze rule altogether. It should have never been in place. There is alr...

Re: Jacking the car from the side
Side jacks offer some advantages, but there could be safety disadvantages. Like Blinky mentioned, the jack could "jam" into its receiving point on the car, and in the natural haste of a pit stop, it could become an issue. The idea of robots is laughable. Sure, it COULD be done, but consider how much...

In the video, the engine's noise is drowned out by terrible electronic 'music'. Then what you can hear sounds like a sportbike engine turning about 4000 RPM, with the microphone about 50 meters away from the exhaust, which is pointing in the opposite direction. It's very soothing. I've extracted a s...

No, I'm not opposed. In fact, I'd like to see zero engine rules. Give the teams an equal amount of fuel for race day (example: 100kg). If you can't finish the race on that amount of fuel, you get a DNF. This would force the engineers to develop a powerful and efficient engine.

There are too many variables involved to determine a hard constant, if that's what you're looking for. The amount of water (which changes lap to lap), the temperature, wind, dry tire performance vs. wet tire, etc etc, all contribute to how fast the car can go. A F1 car properly set up for wet condit...

I'm not sure this is the best question to ask. F1 can be "pure" and full of technology. The problems right now are that the regulations are too strict, and the sport is super expensive. The expense "problem" should take care of itself: If you can't afford to race, don't. There are plenty of less-exp...
