Re: The Official Sir Lewis Hamilton thread
He had a great race in Mexico and his car seems to be improving with every race. Good signs ahead of the next season. Yes but I am a little worried at how Russell is falling off - to me that suggests it is not the car getting better, it is just coming more to Lewis' driving style which is allowing ...

Re: How would Alonso do against Verstappen at Red Bull in 2024?
On one hand, Alonso could be a perfect foil for Verstappen and that experience (bearing in mind that Verstappen is a long way from beng a novice himself now!) passed on to Max may well result in a frighteningly dominant driver. On the other hand, should Alonso find himself wth a genuine shot at anot...

Re: 2023 Mexican Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Sorry; I wasn't following F1 at that time (US-based Champ Car fan - timing is relevant). What was the result, and if bad (assuming so), why and was it destined for failure or did they mess up some aspect that might have been fixed? Serious question. There must be some better way than what they're d...

Re: 2023 Mexican Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
I wouldn’t mind this ruling by the stewards if they didn’t imply you could not stop in the pitlane in the first place. Why say now it’s ok?! My guess is that the rationale is that in Singapore, Verstappen should have been penalised because there was no need for him to stop at the end of the pit lan...

Re: The Official Sir Lewis Hamilton thread
Hamilton has had - what? - almost 17 years in F1. I'd assume, with that amount of experience, a driver would gain an insight into the (aerodynamic) engineering of an F1 car and, whilst certainly far from an expert, should be able to provide a very good bum-in-seat perspective.

Re: 2023 U.S. Grand Prix Race Thread
I believe Chandhok said on Sky last night that it wasn't a completely random selection. The FIA had some data (something to do with oscillations) that showed Hamilton/Leclerc were oscillating a lot and therefore at risk of wear on the plank. Hence them two being checked, and eventually disqualified...

If I could ignore Norris' restart, I'd plump for him. Both he and Hamilton showed great pace and management on mediums in the latter stages (both pushed for FL at the end). Verstappen, peerless once again. Nice haul of points from Danny-Avocado. Tough call. I think I will ignore that restart from No...

Re: The second best car debate
So how are we judging this weekend? Ferrari had the car in qualifying but the race was harder to read. Hamilton would probably have beaten Sainz without the red flag but probably not Leclerc. Was that just because Hamilton lost time behind Ricciardo at the start? However, post red flag, Hamilton wa...

See team orders let the much faster car go by, I think Norris would probably have finished on the podium if not for the yellow in Q1 qualifying when Alonso "cough" lost control of his car. While that’s true, Norris could have got the job done on his other attempts to set laps in Q1. Piastri managed...

The chassis being very efficient is what I would be saying, you're kind of veering us off talking about the engine. At the beginning of this season the Red Bull was the fastest car with it's inherent understeer, a car doesn't have to have rear end instability in order to be the fastest car on the g...

Re: The Official Sir Lewis Hamilton thread
Well, if the engine is below par, the chassis has to make up the difference. So the engine may have had other advantages, particularly in terms of packaging, but it would still cost laptime, in particular in qualifying. Which therefore means that the chassis itself must have been very efficient. Th...

After back to back scoreless GPs by Lewis, Checo now has a 39 point lead with four GPs and one sprint still to go. Normally, I'd agree with you. But every F1 driver is theoretically a leader; their goal is to win for themselves, not support anyone else. Russell for his recovery drive after being spun through no fault of his own.
I see that Hamilton has two votes - presumably either for driver-of-the-first-three-hundred-and-twenty-six-metres, or for giving his team mate an opportunity to showcase such a recovery drive.
