Re: Red Bull query Oil burning rules

Option 1 - return to an open breather system like on my dad's Anglia 105E and belch grey fumes all over the place, on to the track and around the bodywork of the car. Just for extra spice, remember that it will be hitting the visor of the driver behind like in the good old days when they used to ge...

Re: F1 2017 - fastest F1 cars ever.

It may be the camera angle, engine noise or set up, but the 2017 cars look so much easier to drive. Although I doubt Kimi was driving on the limit in that lap.... I think you've hit on it at the end; Schumi is driving flat out, and Kimi is probably driving at least a half second off his ultimate pa...

Mclaren can't afford not to have Honda on board right now. Honda is paying for their drivers and they're getting free engines to boot. They can't just cut it all away even if the contract did allow it

Re: Red Bull query Oil burning rules

Avgas 130 octane has a specific gravity of 0.72 which should be fairly close to what is in use by the teams but even if we assume the teams are running heavy fuel along the lines of military F34 then that is still sg 0.80. Even at the lighter weight oil has a far higher energy density. Add to that t...

Re: 2017 Pre-Season Testing Thread

Externally the cars look very similar and still use a lot of the same concepts, but they are a different beast all together purely because of how the downforce and grip is produced. Last year the primary method of making downforce on the cars was effectively the wings. The front and rear wings and u...

Re: 2017 Pre-Season Testing Thread

I think I wouldn't rule Red Bull out for Oz at this stage if Renault deliver that couple of tenths. Engine down half a second sucks big time with the extra drag of these cars but they haven't shown their aero package yet either so could have a hefty jump in performance with both factors added. They...

Teams instead accepted a proposal from McLaren which is the current regulations and is ...

The fact that Mercedes denied they were burning oil deliberately in their engines then turned around and asked for the FIA to mandate a maximum fuel burn over a race period to 5L is what makes me almost certain that they are indeed doing it... That's massive! Way back in 2014 Ricciardo was disqualif...

Personally I'm not a fan. The V12 and V10 had a nice clean note to them but the V8 never really sounded good, sure they're loud- but in an off key broken reed kind of way. Forget banning team data sharing. Simply allow telemetry to be shared on test circuits to develop the car at the start of the year and then ban it altogether once the cars are actually at GP circuits. Telemetry adds practically nothing to the spectacle, nor the challenge or enjoyment of racing a ca...

Simply put... This is not the actual RBR car. Every single element on it is so simplified it is just showing RBR's depiction of a car as described in the rule book. The actual car will look similar in form, but nothing alike in practice.

Looks surprisingly clean and simple which once again is probably a good thing. Strange though, I really expected something crazy from McLaren under these new regs. Nice front wing mounts though, working all of the aero devices under the nose and along the floor leading edge very hard.
