Re: Lets discuss a radical point system

The OP is unworkable, but I like the idea of points all the way down the grid. Dependent on gaps there is often no reason for anyone 11th and below to push and as mentioned, the constructor's battle for the bottom 2 teams becomes nonsensical. There can always be one fluke race and that one fluke rac...

What's the odds on him going to Lotus, Lotus suddenly lacking pace and Sauber making a leap to the top 4 cars?

Re: Alonso escapes penalty over pass

F1 is too complex a sport to be governed by cut and dried rules. For every rule in F1 there's nearly always some sort of an exception. Exactly. It wouldn't be workable. There will always be incidents like yesterday where one driver is forced off the track so shouldn't be penalised by needing to sla...

Re: Alonso escapes penalty over pass

I don't get people trying to portray this as some sort of Ferrari bias. Was clear to me that Alonso did nothing wrong. A gap was there, cars were wheel to wheel and a gap vanished meaning Alonso was effectively forced wide. I can't remember the Vettel incident in any detail but if it really was 'ide...

Re: Hamilton's overtaking abilities...

Is it confirmed now that Hamilton damaged the car himself when he spun? The claim is the damage caused the spin - Hamilton's words were "I'm not that bad". On the Rosberg V Hamilton V Button debate: I'd say Hamilton and Rosberg have had a fairly similar season, you could say ifs and buts all day bu...

Re: Lotus asking Kimi to "get out of the f* way" (video insi

Agree that Kimi's 'demise' is being exaggerated but why do we assume that other strategies would have left him any higher up the places? Demise - certainly not! Your question is quite interesting; I too share the premise upon which it's based – Lotus aren't very good with strategy. Both he and RoGr...

Re: Lotus asking Kimi to "get out of the f* way" (video insi

Kimi was only beaten by a terrible strategy in this race. Grosjean is doing a good job no doubt, but people are also exaggerating Kimi's performances, Kimi was 2nd and 3rd only two races ago. If Permane actually did his job properly then he could have had two cars on the podium. But Kimi's whole ra...

Re: invincible tyres vs no racing

I'd love to have tyres that can last for people to really push but the strategists would find a way to not push quite as much and do a 0 stop race. The only alternatives I can see are: Create a compound that drop off but aren't as heavily impacted by 'going all out' so teams still need to pit - not ...

Re: Vettel not one of the greats - Eurosport article

My own opinion is Vettel is only currently the 3rd best driver on the grid. That means nothing - history will look back on him as a great. He has won 4 WDC in a row and still realistically has another decade in the sport. I agree that style and mythology can go a long way to defining greatness (ala ...

Re: Lotus asking Kimi to "get out of the f* way" (video insi

Probably they are desperate to trick some sponsor into thinking that Grosjean is a top driver that constantly scores podiums and Kimi is junk. I heard different ones so far, but this one takes the first prize. Definitely. Why just didn't they come with that genial idea earlier? Then Kimi would not ...

Re: Lotus asking Kimi to "get out of the f* way" (video insi

They should have pitted him in lap mid to late 40's. I can't see how the team let him out that long. No one in the pitlane would have done it. I truly believe it was to F!ck Kimi. Lotus can not go on the record and say they thought Kimi would have made it. Pirelli themselves said it's not possible....

Re: End of race driver celebrations (donuts, antics, etc)

Anyone who had a problem with Vettel's celebrations is a boring human I can't imagine the stewards themselves were opposed to his celebration, but to be fair there are rules that must be obeyed and penalties that must be enforced. If they start letting this go, drivers and teams will start pushing ...

Re: Teams asked to limit tyre usage!

But he managed to make his tyres last, proving it was yet another groundless Pirelli bashing... I think it was moreso Pirelli covering their backside (quite rightly). They'd have known the risks of a blowout from running them long, so alerting everyone to the danger beforehand means any problem is ...

Re: Pastor Maldonado "Drives like a madman"

I think of him simillarly to Grosjean. His style is going to split opinion and when it works people will love him for it, when it goes wrong people will call him stupid for the exact same thing that he was applauded for previously. On him not even being mentioned for the big openings / silly season ...

Re: Horner admits Ricciardo was part of strategy

Any reason why some other big team got no sister/brother team in F1? If that would already be of such great benefit to the team. It's only a benefit if you can afford it without detracting from the main team. I also don't imagine the benefits being huge, excluding the odd sudden innovation that may...

Re: Are Williams A Spent Force In F1

They're very unlikely to get near the top again for a while, but nothing to suggest they can't have the odd season around where Lotus are now as well as fairly consistently hitting McLaren's & Force India's performances of this season.

Re: Is Alonso on his way back to McLaren?

Find the messages from McLaren strange to say the least. It's fairly obvious all the real top drivers are taken for next year. Of the field, arguably only Hulk is going to be a real contender for a spot ahead of Perez (and you've also got to feel some sympathy for Perez due to the mixed messages / s...

Re: Driving beyond the white lines

At some tracks they are given some allowance on cetain corners to go over the lines. Eu Rouge and Ascari chicane are 2 the come to mind although they did crack down a bit on Ascari the last two years. I believe that is correct, but I can't think why they would do that. Strict stewarding might just ...

But who's to say they did deserve to be fighting at the front more so than those ahead. Grosjean & Hulkenberg drove better races than Hamilton & Alonso at Korea, so I disagree that Hamilton & Alonso "deserved" to fighting Kimi & Vettel instead, and I disagree that they "deserved" anything more than...

Bit of a sneaky thread title, like a tabloid newspaper taking a quote out of context. The thread title indicates he was saying those two are a higher calibre then everyone - what he is really saying his him and Alonso, given their quality, should be battling for the title. Something which is entirel...

Re: Mark Webber's 09' accident

Bear in mind the Red Bull is configured for a huge amount of rear downforce which Vettel absolutely loves (would even say relies on). When they temporarily lost this, Webber was very even and you could have called it either way. Although nobody will admit to a #2 driver, the design of the car is for...

I don't think its anything to do with established teams, although the # of annoyed people may be higher as the established teams are likely to have more fans. It's a pure dominance thing. I love watching F1 but like every other sport, you want to see real competition - when one person or team domina...

Re: Minimum Pit-stops?

I really like the idea and it is something I was thinking of a few day ago. You want people to flat out race. The only way to do so is to effectively remove tyres from being as much of a problem, or a problem at all. If you make tyres more durable, you'll just get strategies where people continue to...
