Re: Ecclestone warns only 14 cars on F1 grid in 2015 [MERGED
Don't you see that an F1 where teams cannot stand on their own two feet financially is not sustainable? As a final point I'd like to mention that the NFL, probably the most commercially successful sport in the world, distributes the TV money equally to every team, no matter how successful they are ...

Re: 2014 US GP qualifying thread
Brilliant lap, not sure LH will be too worried though, it is difficult to hit a car if you are in front off it!
I think it will test Nico's nerves a bit having LH in your mirrors on a circuit where it is relatively easy to follow the leader without loosing performance.

Re: 14 cars OR 20 cars but no Ferrari
Blake, (numerous posts), I am confused as to whether you support Ferrari or not, you signature implies you do, however, I fear you believe that without Ferrari the sport is doomed ! Thats like saying football will collapse if Barcelona goes bust. Ferrari are huge with tremendous history but not esse...

Re: 14 cars OR 20 cars but no Ferrari
First of all, Ferrari's so-called "huge chunk" of the budget is not enough to keep 2 or3 more teams in F1 so we are working on a false premiss to begin with. More importantly, is the factor that without Ferrari there would be a LOT less money taken in to spread around to the other teams. There woul...

Re: 14 cars OR 20 cars but no Ferrari
I'm a longtime (30 years or so) McLaren fan - I can tell you Ferrari as an overall is good, but by no means perfect, for F-1. They put butts in seats. That could be a good reason for them to contribute as equals rather than because of their 'status' or their 'money'. It is time for a change, Bernie...

Re: Is F1 about to undergo a fundamental change?
It seems clear to me that in terms of spreading financial equality between big and small teams there will be NONE ! BE seems happy to let the small teams fail. So where will the new ideas and new blood come from, some of the highlights of F1 have been the unexpected poles and podiums will these just...

Is F1 about to undergo a fundamental change?
With Bernie suggesting potentially 14 cars on the grid http://www.wheels24.co.za/News/Bernie-warns-of-14-cars-on-cash-strapped-grid-20141101 And Force India suggesting there is a hidden agenda to F1 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/29858916 Does this explain the driver stalemate? If so will F1 ...

Re: Marussia in Administration...
My impression from press reports is that they could have interested a buyer but pitched the price too high. Just wonder if that was deliberate and the team may have lost the will to go on after the Jules Bianchi crash in Japan.
Shame because their conduct around that was exemplary.

Re: Potential three-car teams for 2015
For me 3 car teams = rolling road block, and that could be anywhere down the grid ! Imagine Monaco if a team were to lock out the grid. The race would be decided on Saturday with the dominant team choosing the order on the podium. Would that make you want to watch it on Sunday even if it is free? O...

Re: Alonso 2015
Regarding 3 car teams, I need some help here, are they logistically possible? How easy is it to build another F1 chassis and engine, recruit a third set of mechanics and pit crew, plan moving another 50% of spares to 20 odd locations round the world. Are the pits capable of coping with 3 cars in the...

Grabs your interest, did Mercedes or Renault do anything similar? The attention to detail of their marketing is really impressive. Can't wait for next year !

Re: Alonso 2015
If McLaren build the fastest car in the pack do they need the fastest driver in the pack to win the WDC?
It seems to me a very good driver could still bring home the title and we are blessed with a crop of 5 or 6 of those!

Re: Points System Fair?
Anyone see a resemblance in thinking between Bernie Ecclestone and Sep Blatter? I think crediting either of them with the power of thought is a bit generous. All they are good for is politicking and corruption. Might want to pop a little edit in there, say "allegedly" or similar, however, many peop...

Re: Points System Fair?
The last race double points system exists in sailing and works well. But there is a big difference, Bernie has left out an important part of it. In a season only a certain number of races qualify, the reminder are discarded, so in a 20 race season perhaps 11 of those races would count if all is equa...

Re: Safety in F1 following Japan GP [Split from other thread
So what speed do you limit the drivers too and who decides? The thing about the safety car is that it will drive as fast as conditions allow, so enabling at least the chance of keeping heat in the tyres. Cold tyres and brakes are a danger in themselves as we all know as they stop working.
