Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

 Exactly, you know when Kimi is 5 tenths faster than Hamilton in qualifying, then you must have a dominant car. Kimi wasn't 0.5 up on Hamilton in qualifying, he was 0.467 up with his weakest sector to come. He was going to be 0.300-0.350 ahead because Hamiltons S3 on his fastest lap wasn't...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

My personal opinion based on the data, 2 pages ago was that Ferrari was about 0.250-0.350 ahead. It could have been as high as 0.4 but I think that's going into the realm of the unknown. Sometimes what actually happens on track does not reflect performance levels. Raikkonen qualified 6th but he did ...

Re: Alonso to compete in WEC this year!

Congrats to Alonso. It would be amazing to see him add Le Mans to his career and it seems he have the best opportunity to do it right away. Amazing, he can win in literally anything with hardly any practise.

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

The difficulty lies in the fact that Kimi kept messing up his laps. So any guesses on what he would have done had he actually managed to keep it on the road are pure speculation. We just don't know that he would even have matched Vettel's S2, let alone beat it. I just keep coming back to the fact t...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

Nobody told Kimi that, it seems. Hamilton's best S3 time was 25.091s - he was the 2nd quickest in that sector, behind Ocon. Kimi's best S3 time was 25.426s, only good enough for 10th best S3 time overall. That puts him a fraction under 0.400s behind Hamilton in S3, which indicates that he wouldn't ...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

China and Baku was both dominant Ferrari displays in quali, should have been both drivers locking the front row for 3 races on the trot. China I'll certainly give you, but I don't feel Baku was dominant. It was less than two tenths to the nearest Mercedes, and Kimi's mistake left him down in 6th. A...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

Well I would say dominant is when both Ferrari drivers can be clearly a few tenths away from Mercedes, yes the results didn't finish like that but it was going to happen. Kimi was flying and would have been over 3 tenths ahead Hamilton. You think dominant is a few tenths? Then what's just being a s...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

Yes you are actually right, however my point was last year Mercedes was quicker on saturdays and then it was close on sundays. Which is similar to this year. The Mercedes this year also seems to be easier on its tyres than the Ferrari, again a switch from last year. Mercedes have hauled Vettel back ...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

It is like 2017 but completely flipped, almost in every aspect of the cars. One key difference though was Vettel was able to start lots of races P2 last year and if Kimi shows up that hasn't happened this year post Australia. Last year, you always knew Ferrari would pole Monaco, Hungary, Budapest an...

Re: Ricciardo 2019 contract. Where will he end up?

He surely wants the best car with the weakest team mate so he can win a WDC. If Red Bull became the best car then he knows that over a season, so long as Verstappen doesn't improve his race craft, he can beat him. But, Red Bull have a really weak hand with there engine in the near future so that cou...

Re: When should drivers defend an overtake by a team mate?

Baku is unique, if two drivers have quite an equal pace then they can theoretically change position almost every lap due to the monster slipstream and DRS. Cars routinely overtook whilst being 0.9 behind coming into the full throttle part, meaning DRS + slipstream was worth over 0.9 which raises the...

Re: Track Marshalls & Debris

That makes it even more reckless then. If he had no mirrors and was being slip streamed and about to be overtaken, he has swerved blind at 200 mph in a walled in circuit, I don't think you can do anything more dangerous in an F1 car. If you have no mirrors, you have to leave space either side. Its l...

Re: Track Marshalls & Debris

I agree with you. However I do think the safety car is almost always kept out at least 2 laps too long. Today the track was clear, no debris and for some reason it drove about for another couple of laps and Grojean chucked it in the wall. Also instead of letting lapped cars unlap themselves, would ...

One of the most dangerous pieces of driving I have seen in a long long time. This is race ban territory, Gasly is lucky to not have been turned into a missile.

Re: Red Bull starts formal talks with Honda over 2019 deal

The way Red Bull threw Renault under the bus even when winning titles, I fear for Honda partnering with Red Bull. It will be Mclaren all over again. 2019 would definitely be a year too early IMO.

Re: Why did Ferrari pit Vettel so early?

The Ferrari is not as kind to its tyres as the Mercedes and Red Bull. The bonus for them is they switch them on quicker though. Vettel was running 0.4-0.5 off of his stint best just before he pitted. Whilst Bottas and Red Bulls were going quicker and quicker with every lap and by that point 0.5+ a l...

Re: Hamilton already quicker than Rosberg?…

Nothing like a word/phrase definition petty argument when everybody involved knew what was meant.

When Jenson complained last year, "I have no grip" was that literal too? Ah-ha, figures of speech. Right on.
