How much protection in an incident like Alonso's do the raised cockpit sides provide?

Re: Conspiracy Theories!!!!
I remember hearing an F1 driver (possibly Ayrton Senna?) saying it is impossible to build a car to suit a particular driving style, some drivers adapt much better to cars handling qualities than others.

I've seen several documentaries about Senna and they all show him running a lot in the grounds of his enormous house in Brazil. He seems very fit to me!Shumi wrote:Perhaps they would have to get slightly fitter (especially Senna who apparently wasn't verry fit at all).

I think Monaco 1992 to watch Senna demonstrating to Nigel Mansell that sometimes skill can outdo a cars performance advantages.

I always thought the underfloor step was a recent (post 90's) addition but this shows it first appearing in the early 80's.

Comparing rivals but in the same car
I know F1 drivers successes are often compared with those of other drivers but how often are two truly comparable drivers in the same team? I do feel it can be slightly unfair to compare Alonso, Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton against each other this year as they are all driving for different teams....

I'd like to watch a current F1 car do a lap (or many) of Thruxton to see what it makes of the fastest motor racing circuit in England.

He's just not that good , I think Whitmarsh is regretting offering him a multi-year contract. He loves to blame set ups etc but the fact is Hamilton or Alonso would never start in the top ten and finish 16th without a major drama in the race. Button is just plain slow. This really sums it up, like ...

How many drivers had their bright F1 futures dimmed by their team mates?
Barrichello perhaps spending his prime as MS's team mate?
Berger with Senna, Prost and Mansell as team mates?
Possibly Massa, Alesi and Coulthard could be said to be right car, wrong time?
