Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
No Poker. There are two separate things. I'm commenting on one of the things. My observation that the incident shows how awful these cars are at racing each other makes no comment on the actions of Alonso. Once Russell got close to Alonso he lost all front grip. I think this is bad as it means we c...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
I think calling it a brake test is a little unfair, even if it technically was one. The spirit of what Alonso was doing, wasn't to brake test Russell in the way we understand the term brake test. I've no reason to disbelieve Alonso, his recount seems like what he was trying to do, and what happened...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
20 second penalty for Alonso. Drops to P8. Wow, that's a far more major penalty than has been handed out recently. It was a brake check causing another driver to crash for me I would have black flagged him out of the race. Of course you would, but on what grounds? Even the stewards don't agree with...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
Missed that Alonso got a penalty til now. Very confused. Is the art of slowing down in a corner to reduce the car behind’s momentum dead? Or is it just stewards bashing Alonso for the sake of it again? Slowing down your rival is one thing, but Alonso behaved in an unpredictable and dangerous manner...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
One thing the Russell/Alonso incident does show is how awfully untraceable these cars are. Russell's car became basically undriveable because he got close behind Alonso into a fast corner. This can't be what we want? Like that was the pure dynamic I believe Russell had to brake which helped to dest...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
When he gets close to the back of Alonso he immediately loses all front grip. It's quite obvious. No wonder we only get dull DRS passes. Russell had to react to Alonso's brake test which destabilised his car, we blame the cars for what Alonso did. No Poker. There are two separate things. I'm commen...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
“We had one of the worst sessions I’ve probably had for a long time.“ Hardly the words of someone talking about this season alone. Therefore I don’t think I am misrepresenting his words at all. Of course Hamilton is not going to denounce the W15 when he has been very vocal about the importance of h...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
After today’s qualifying, we can see what Mercedes is achieving without him. Hamilton was unhappy, Wolff got scared and the end result is this year’s wonderful car. A car that Hamilton has no faith in at all. I would say the chickens have come home to roost. https://www.planetf1.com/news/lewis-hami...

I don't think they've started again from scratch. Plenty of teams have changed concept. Red Bull for this year for 1. You give Mercedes way too much credit. Alonso forgot that it was Russell behind him and not Hamilton. Yeah just heard from him and...

What did the Elliott designed car achieve, one race win and third fastest car. After today’s qualifying, we can see what Mercedes is achieving without him. Hamilton w...

Just admit it was all a bit of a red herring. All of the arc about the team not listening to Hamilton was nothing but noise. Hamilton’s remarks are now making him come across more as self centred and a whole lot less about being a team player. In other words disingenuous. It would help if you had b...

I guess we call that another entertaining F3 race on the cheesy tyres, at one point they were having to lap 5 seconds slower than earlier in the race, tyre preservation was of such a concern that defence was sacrificed for the sake of the tyres with the leaders, Mini letting 2 cars glide past him, d...

Some would use the term "ran out of talent" (which I hate) for what Antonelli did, depending of course who the driver is. Maybe I'm biased but Antonelli was going past Verschoor before he got hit. Given that it's the aspect of F1 rookies seem to struggle with the most we probably need more of them in F3 and F2. The tyre deg is worse than what we see in F1 so I'm not convicted that it's little more to entertain like the reverse grids, this track is supposed to be low deg. I'm not sure it is.....
