Re: The Positive Thread

Must find the box set of Sabrina... I mean er, my week so far has been EPIC. Me, the girlfriend and her flatmates had Christmas last night. I got an F1 car keyring, with my name engraved on the base. There were other things too, but that kind of took priority! Then in the pub later that night, a qua...

Re: Avid fan but doesn't have their country represented?

I'm English, but my grandmother is Czech. Part of my old band's logo was the Czech flag, and I've tended to support Czecho over the UK in a lot of international competitions. Ironically I still feel the exact same pain as England every World Cup, but at least we have less expectation on our shoulder...

Re: Teams in f1 are a joke

Like Lola in 1997 spent all the money producing the car getting to aus and then bining the whole plan. I don't know wat entirely happened there but that's my point, looks to lower class imo They binned nothing. MasterCard screwed them over by backing out after the cars failed to qualify in Australi...

Hartstein was Watkins' protege, was he not? If Max were still around I could understand Hartstein being given the boot - see the reference to Roebuck's article above - but there's no reason to not renew his contract that I can see - quite the opposite, given the first four words of this post. Ide, Yamamoto, Montagny, Kiesa [he missed his window for qualifying in Canada!], Yoong, Nakano, Inoue. Although Taki Inoue is perhaps an unfair example - he did seem to attract the medical car towards him, famously being hit by it twice in one year. Hardly his fault.

Re: Teams in f1 are a joke

Absolutly these teams should strive for higher goals, I know it's hard and not cheap but why head into f1 going ok goal is q3, why bother, plus I understand how back in the day you'll have like 30 cars and 10 wouldn't even qualify, this IMO is when the governing body should step in and allow extra ...

Re: Teams in f1 are a joke

Lola and Prodrive put in bids, but the FIA refused as neither wanted to use the Cosworth lump. Max was trying to get his universal engine forced onto the grid, hence he picked 3 [well, 4, but USF1 never made it...] weak teams rather than those with established motorsport pedigree. Prodrive didn't h...

Sorry couldn't think of appropriate title but what Iam trying to say is, the way these small teams enter the championship for 1-2 seasons and fold. I understand formula one is an expensive cut throat industry, but they way they keep popping up and folding under different names is a joke, this is fo...

Williams do a lot of marketing stuff.
In order to keep the team running. Actually, add Ferrari to that list too, and arguably McLaren.

An interesting summary, although it made perhaps too little of their history - especially 2008, losing to Toro Rosso. To go directly from there to fighting for the title was impressive.

If the FIA want to explore new tech in open wheelers, allow experimental stuff alongside the trusty ICE in F1. These are some of the most creative engineering minds in motorsport: let them be useful to the motor industry too!

Non-F1 related. Did you know that Juan Manuel Fangio asked Enzo to consider Horacio Pagani for a position within Ferrari, but Ferrari rejected Pagani? Hence the Zonda was named after Fangio - that's what the F stood for. Yes, I posted that in the Heroes thread. ;) I knew I'd read it recently!

Yet in the past Bernie has said he doesn't like only having 10 teams as it means everyone gets prize money, so the 10th team is more likely to simply tread water rather than aim to improve.
