With the current points system, if the Merc/RB/Ferrari/Lotus drivers are within 20-30pts of each other, they have performed reasonably evenly IMO.

tbh, the pit lane exit is badly designed at Yas Marinas. You're exiting, blind, into the racing line of the exit of a high speed corner. The situation with Vergne and Alonso, they couldn't see each other until they were just about touching, and not being that aware they might be there.... not a good...

One of the problems is so many of the tracks are now fundamentally very similar. If a team/driver combo masters tracks of that style, they dominate. I think this tyre era of F1 most definitely favours balanced drivers, as opposed to smooth and aggressive.

Lewis has not adapted at all well to it, and coupled with a bit of mental weakness, his form is erratic.

I do think the tyres skew qualifying performance to a degree. Driver and car both need to be working right.

Only really Vettel/Red Bull has been able to get them working for both qualifying and race with consistency.
