Re: Rank Hamilton and Verstappen's teammates

I'm still not sure exactly where Russell is as a driver other than he isn't elite.

Last season he carried luck and beat Hamilton, this season he's been unlucky and being beaten. So I reckon he is somewhere in about Rosberg/Button level, possibly a wee half step back from them.

Re: Rank Hamilton and Verstappen's teammates

I don't think Verstappen is particularly unusual as a driver - he has his own quirks and traits, but ultimately he likes a pointy car and to get his work done early in the corner and just deals with the looseness. Whilst maybe not being the most common style, plenty of drivers share a basic style li...

Re: 2023 Italian Grand Prix Race Thread

Hamilton does have the odd brain fade wheel to wheel. He always has done this. He deserved his penalty today, but he is usually an excellent judge of pushing his driving into the grey areas of the rules without going beyond - he is one of the best ever at this imo (and that's not a criticism, at the...

Verstappen, Lawson and Sainz wasn't hamilton a hero for getting it to the end on those tyres? ;) Bottas did pretty much the same number of laps on mediums at the end too. Few things impress me more in motorsport than Hamilton's ability to do the same mileage as everyone else on tyres he reports are...

I'm suprised to see everyone almost universally putting Kovalainen ahead of Gasly. Gasly was terrible as Verstappen teammate. Kovalainen was much closer to Hamilton. I did put Gasly bottom. I think he is better than Kovalainen overall, but as I've said before it's difficult to think of somebody get...

Monza is usually an outlier since it is technically probably the easiest track on the calendar and 85% is full throttle. Not saying it doesn't have it's technical challenges, but they should be bread and butter to F1 level drivers. You often see the cars qualify 2x2.

Re: PF1 Forum teammate wars vote: Holland 2023

All fairly easy votes except Mercedes and Alpha Tauri. Mercedes made a balls up of this race strategy wise for both drivers - Russell should of been there or thereabouts for a podium and I felt he was quite unlucky to end up with a puncture at the end - 9/10 times that doesn't happen. Hamilton ultim...

I agree. No top team is doing what Mercedes have done this last decade without a top driver in situ - but it's always been that way. Top car + top driver = impressive stats. The sports very different now to what it was even 20yrs ago. Wolff and Horner are great modern team principles. They couldn't ...

Not sure how this will knock on in the coming years for young drivers, but certainly up here in the north of the UK, many grass roots level series are struggling for numbers. As said before, I struggle to think of a driver whom was already in F1 - getting promoted to a bigger team, and doing worse than Gasly did in that Red Bull. This is it. Ultimately what I'm saying there is a limit to what a driver can do. If you have a top driver, in a top car...... Nobody in a merely "good" car is beating him. No disrespect to Hill and Villeneuve, but they are maybe the 2x weakest WDC of the modern F1 era, and Schumacher was maybe the b...

Harsh but fair. Harsh as he barely got time to get established. Fair as it's likely even once fully settled he was never going to be anything beyond a midfielder. It is fairly interesting and probably quite accruate, but its isn't really telling us anything we don't know. If Ricciardo isn't comfortably outperforming Tsunoda by the end of the season - it's curtains for him as an F1 driver. Tsunoda is arguably the weakest team mate he will have had in F1. Will be interesting to see how he comes back.

Are we getting the DR that humbled Seb, and was a match for (younger and less complete) Max..... Or the DR that flopped badly at McLaren.

I don't think DR's performance at McLaren was a true reflection of where he is as a driver.

I think Verstappen runs up better stats in good cars, and I think wins a head 2 head in a 2 way fight in a "best" car. I'd back peak Alonso in a season where it's more of a dogfight in opposing teams.

Alonso, psychologically, seemed at his best as the underdog.
