Re: Saving F1

Roll back to 90s technical regs with a budget cap that enforces 90s size budgets (adjusting for inflation). Use todays sporting regulations but without DRS. Race on proper circuits. Job done. If a 90s style race happened next weekend with the level of coverage we have now people would go nuts for it.

Interesting from AMUS that Alonso has been offered a seat at Red Bull but seemingly Alonso is only interested if Verstappen has left the team, strange that Alonso would have less confidence of going up against Verstappen then Hamilton did. https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/f1-transfermar...

Yeah I've just referenced that it's allowing Russell to beat him because they were only fighting for minor points positions, interesting you think that neither drivers had great races, that would be nothing to do with the car then and the wrong tyre strategy. No, it wouldn’t because both drivers ca...

Re: 2024 Japanese Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

You would object to Hamilton retiring from the sport if all he could find himself in was the 4th/5th fastest car? Russell was on the same wrong tyres that had him finishing in 7th place, it's that some kind of great achievement? Anyway he believed he was helping the team when he allowed Russell to ...

I'm not sure how we've got here but I'd certainly say that being the last WDC for McLaren in an inferior car (which it unquestionably was) adds to Hamilton's legacy. Did the Ferrari really turn out to be that much better than the McLaren, or did Heikki Kovalainen fail to bring sufficient points in ...

Real hard to pick winner between 2010, 2011 and 2007. I went for 2011 because that sort of race at the time felt so unique. It's really not something we'd seen before and it became the sort of race that was the hallmark of F1 for the next 2 and a half years.

Amazing really that when this thread started Verstappen wasn't even on the list! 100 wins is definitely on. Anyone got stats on how quickly the 30+ wins drivers got to each 10 win marker after their first race? As in time from win 1 to 10, then 1-20 , 1-30 etc? Max now on 57 must surely have hit th...

Alonso said that it was in his top 5 drives ever. While I think Alonso was impressive (and I voted for him), I'm pretty sure he tends to produce one of his best drives ever conveniently whenever he wants to emphasize that his car isn't good enough. It happened quite a few times in 2015 as well. ;) ...

Re: Who will end their career with the most wins?

Hamilton won his 57th race at the 2017 British Grand Prix. Verstappen won it yesterday. It’s quite a weird feeling because by midway 2017, Hamilton felt like he was a lot further along in his career. I agree with you. I guess that's just a by product of Verstappen basically not having a junior care...

He claimed damage to his car when he let Russell go passed but that being said he seemed to have little fight like we saw from Russell for all of 7th place. I'm not sure why Hamilton offered to move over. Sure he was slower in stint one which was unlike him but he was much quicker than Russell in the final two stints and lost 10 seconds to the undercut. Didn't look "much quicker" in the final stint; he got closer due to Russell getting stuck behind Pia...

I don't know whether RB thinks like that - but if they did it would be a massive disapointment. Everyone and her daughter would have finished second. Sainz's only deserved move would be Red Bull as that team is still the best. But Checo is doing good enough to keep that seat his. Mercedes doesn't seem like the team to go but could again create wonders in 2026 with new regulations. Aston Martin is a good choice as McLaren isn't an option. Below A...

My problem is that I have (of course!) read that report. And I found it a very strange one indeed. My question, which you replied to, is genuine.
