Re: María de Villota found dead

I do think it should have been more public. She gave her life for the sport she loved. A casual observer may have failed to even know she passed away. A missed opportunity to recognise her contribution and a missed opportunity to improve F1's image. While I agree that the FIA could have honoured he...

Re: Drinking Milk on podiums

I've always found it extremely silly (and ill-mannered) to go wasting a perfectly fine, if far too pricey, drink. I would open the bottle and start pouring drinks to everybody. Much nicer. Also, I read a long time ago, that adults aren't very well adapted to drinking milk. Children apparently are. A...

Re: Alonso - "Raikonnen not quicker than Massa".

It will be interesting to see if Kimi was hired for either 1. To mount a serious WDC challenge as Alonso is out of favour at Ferrari. 2. To be the points monster he is in order for Ferrari to have a shot at WCC - with the possibility of this putting him as a number 2 3. Ferrari have gone with a wha...

Re: Seb and Alain.

Why would anybody seek to compare the two careers? Worthiness is not measured by the quality of the competition, nor by circumstances the driver cannot control. Is Vettel a worthy (soon-to-be)4 times F1 world champion? Of course he is, he wouldn't be one if he weren't. Is Alain Prost less worthy as...

It also wouldn't shock me if Alonso has been quite surprised at the loyalty to Kimi from many of the Ferrari mechanics. Most loved him and were sad to see him go. I must admit that is something I haven't really considered. But you must be right, considering what Räikkönen said about his time at the...

One of the best for me: 18 June 1989. Boutsen winning his first Grand Prix. If only Benetton had not gone for atmospheric engines instead of turbos for 1988, he might well have been a race winner earlier. Perhaps even in 1987, when the gear lever came loose when he was leading the Austrian Grand Pri...

Today's PF1ers are much more sane and rational, thankfully. I agree, but I wonder why. Re: Weak tyres/DRS etc. a good thing?

DRS means a faster car has more chance of overtaking an obviously slower car, which must be a good thing - as long as slower cars are still able to defend by sticking to the racing line (with only one defensive deviation allowed). i.e. If the slower driver is on the racing line, he should not have ...

Re: Ricciardo upset over 130R penalty

I think Dan was tiddled because the wording of the penalty was 'gained an advantage' by going off track and his interpretation was that going off the track actually hindered him because he lost time by rejoining the track and then had to defend heavily into the chicane. Therefore, the only way he c...

Can they not just reduce aero dependency massively and allow tyres where drivers can really push. Yes they can. But lap times would visibly suffer, and I fear that's what F1 is afraid of. How do you explain to the fans that these drivers are so "slow" all of a sudden? Because cornering speeds dicta...

Isn't that similar to what Senna did to Prost in 1989? I think he's probably more upset that it took the stewards so long to work out what to do about the incident before punishing him. My real 'pet hate' though is the change in rules so that a defending driver has to leave room. I thought it was better when the overtaking driver had to really earn the overtake by choosing the right place where they couldn't easily be pushed off the track. A driver was never allowed to do that. Wh...

. Think back to when this rule was "invented" ( or rather extended). Hamilton went "too" fast into a corner at a chicane/s-bend and went off. He handed the place back BUT immediately overtook. He was penalised despite doing what the rules said. The FIA "clarified" the rules after the fact that the ...
