Re: would be interesting to see race w/ everyone had same eq
Even if the cars are identical, drivers are not. I dont just mean physically, but some like the back end loose others like the front to dig in etc. some cars design is easier to get one or the other, but not usually both, so one driver would not be happy. All of these things are extremely easy to d...

Re: 2017 Silly season - Indy Car edition
2017 Indy Car silly season has started 6 months early. Even though he still has a contract with ECR, it has confirmed that Josef Newgarden will join the Penske Organization for 2017 thus saying farewell to Juan Pablo Montoya. But ECR was in talks with Montoya about driving for him. http://www.racer...

Re: would be interesting to see race w/ everyone had same eq
I don't often drive carts, and never seriously, as I always get well beaten by the youngsters. It could be because they are younger and better, or because I am 15.5 stone, and some of them are less than 10 stone? The concept of things being equal is difficult to put in to practice. actually, in kar...

Re: would be interesting to see race w/ everyone had same eq
agree, it wouldn't be the "end all" in proving who is best, but would be really fun to watch. Also agree that everyone succeeds in different equipment, because eveyone has different strengths and weaknesses I know this never happens and I think drivers purposefully avoid such racing, as to not under...

would be interesting to see race w/ everyone had same equip
I know this never happens and I think drivers purposefully avoid such racing, as to not undermine their skills, but it would be really cool to see everyone on the same exact equipment just to see how it would turn out. No way the front runners would ever go for it, which is why we never or hardly ev...

Re: Indy Car: Sonoma : Season Finale
Simon certainly dominated. The race itself was less than exciting (at least I thought). Perhaps only when compared to all the action we've seen in recent outings. But he deserved to win and a hearty congratulations to the team. I've always been a Penske guy so this was a bit of a love in. Newgarden...

I never understood the logic F1 uses to just adding another variable to racing. Why do they want a tire choice to potentially determine the outcome of a race or a championship?

Re: had some issues w/ the TV commentary re: Ham (singapore)
Sorry guys, I am in the US. I totally forgot that we use different commentators. To be honest, I like them 99% of the time, but a few things just stuck out to me as a little weird.

Re: had some issues w/ the TV commentary re: Ham (singapore)
The British media and (more so) social media can be intolerable when it comes to Hamilton. Hamilton I do feel likes to play it up as well. I do actually feel a bit sorry for Rosberg, even though I don't find him particularly palatable either. He is portrayed, particularly on social media, as a vast...

had some issues w/ the TV commentary re: Ham (singapore)
I think the guys do a great job 99% of the time, but a few things struck me as a little odd, and sort of in favor of Hamilton over Nico. 1. As the race went on, AMG decided to use yellow soft tires on Hamiltons car instead of a super or ultra soft tire. First of all, lets put a little perspective on...

as mentioned in the other thread. I'd prefer more simple aero and increased mechanical grip. If it has to be one of the other, I'd go for P2p

Re: Indycar Grand Prix at The Glen
I like to watch indycar road and street courses because the racing is so good. The problem for me is that the cars are so damn ugly, and the drivers seem to be the GP2 or GP3 drivers that could never get an F1 ride or guys that have been driving since the CART days. Not saying they are bad drivers, ...

Re: Stoffel Vandoorne race driver 2017 for McLaren
Does anyone else get the sneaking suspicion they're only doing it this way because they're actually quite concerned Alonso might rage-quit after he sees the 2017 cars? I thought similar, I think JB might be sticking around in case Fernando bails to another series if Mc isn't competitive next year a...

Re: DRS is such a dumb concept
assisted? If I spend all day looking for examples on DRS giving us more action, we'd be here all day reading through the examples. A car capable of overtaking another without it can be down to "Tyres" or simply "Better car". What DRS does is two cars very close to each other, two drivers very close...

Re: DRS is such a dumb concept
DRS was introduced as a temporary stop-gap a few years ago, intended to be removed with the new regs [the previous lot of new regs...] but for some reason it's stuck around. Frankly I'd just say allow moveable aerodynamics, then the drivers can alter their own downforce levels and run as close as t...

Re: DRS is such a dumb concept
Not just that, it also completely ruins "starting from the back" mega drives. Imagine DRS at Suzuka 2005 where Alonso and Raikkonen showed their class. I used to love misfortune hit random drivers and then they have to climb back up the grid. But now you know LH would end up on the podium even if h...

Re: DRS is such a dumb concept
I am hoping that 2017 with the larger tires, we see a lot more passing and passing done in the corners. Does anyone have any idea as to the compounds being used? If the tires create so many marbles, it will again, be a HUGE factor in whether we see a lot of corner or off line passing or not. The tir...

DRS is such a dumb concept
In what other series do the cars/drivers that perform well or in front, get penalized in favor of the trailing car? (Yes, I understand that IMSA does this with the GT cars, where they give wt penalties to the cars up front, so the next race is a little closer). Let see, so if you are on your final 3...

Re: Opinions why Alex Zanardi had such a horrible F1 career?
I think it was just a case on not being able to quite adapt to an F1 car, Despite Indy and F1's cars looking fairly similar, they are very different beasts to drive and not only that but the tracks are vastly different so an entirely different driving style would be required. I'm not saying it's im...

Re: Opinions why Alex Zanardi had such a horrible F1 career?
There are levels and levels... Put those other CART drivers and F1 and they much likely would've done worse than Zanardi. F1 is where the best in the world are, and where good drivers from other series can join and get exposed. Sebastien Bourdais is another example like Zanardi. And like Zanardi, w...

Re: Opinions why Alex Zanardi had such a horrible F1 career?
some good points. It is interesting, as I have several F1 and a few CART 1:18 scale models and the Raynard that they used in CART is actually much more similar in appearance and demensions (although slightly larger) to my Senna McLaren MP4-6. The driving styles are also much more similar on those ca...

Opinions why Alex Zanardi had such a horrible F1 career?
He is one of my favorite all time racers, but I still can't wrap my head around why he did so poorly in F1. I know the obvious answer is that he came to a more difficult series (F1) from a lesser series (CART) with more talented drivers. And on the surface that makes sense, but as you really start t...

Re: Most disappointing F1 career?
I often think about this topic as well. As a HUGE CART fan in the 90s, I would have to say almost every CART driver to go to F1 was a disappointment. I am trying to figure out why, but I think that most of the time F1 comes down to the equipment, more than anything. I hate spec racing, but in realit...
