Re: Is the grid better now or 10 years ago?
Something we see happen pretty regularly at the start with one driver or another. Yet we have never seen a penalty for something like that before or since. Generally the stewards give the drivers an amnesty at the start anyway. Fuji was a massive exception to the excepted convention. In fact you ca...

Re: Is the grid better now or 10 years ago?
I know Spa is contentious for some, but what other penalties were bizarre? When Hamilton got penalised for out braking himself into turn 1 in Fuji. We have never seen a penalty handed out for anything like that before or since. Then Massa got the same penalty for actually clobbering into Hamilton l...

Re: Is the grid better now or 10 years ago?
I would say 2008 definitely fits the bill of 'against the odds' inferior car, second season, and some bizarre stewarding. I always think it's a bit of a credit to Hamilton that he managed that whilst having one of his worst seasons! I'm not convinced mikeyg123. Both of them made a lot of errors - e...

Re: Is the grid better now or 10 years ago?
The year before Alonso thrashed Trulli and Trulli was losing form against Alonso before his sacking, now you might want to believe that Trulli was being sabotaged as he claimed? You seem to forget that Massa was driving a different car to Hamilton, you might want to think that the cars were equal b...

Re: F1 Single GP Winners
Went with Kubica, Alesi, and Musso. For me the others don't really stand up above the pack. Kubica would have gone on to win more and Alesi would have won 4/5 with better reliability. Musso is one of my favorite drivers from the 50s so I'm perhaps a little biased there. Fagioli I didn't count as he ...

Re: Boring Time in Motorsports - Driver Comparisons
If you're being compared to two of the best drivers there have ever been in F1, little wonder if you come out just a tiny little bit short. Boutsen himself said in an interview a few years ago that he wasn't good enough to be a world champion, but I believe he was at least as "good" as Mansell. Why...

Re: Refuelling could return in 2017
I don't know why people dislike refuelling so much, I have no problem with seeing it come back, it will go along way to allowing drivers to push flat out again when they're no longer trying to maximise tyre life because they may need to refuel anyway. I also don't see how it's artificial in any way...

Nice thread - I've done this as the best driver that particular team rather than best through their career. Eg choosing Hamilton for Mercedes instead of Schumacher. Re: Magnussen to Replace Maldonado?
I do get bored of constantly having to defend Maldanado and I do think Magnussen is probably the better driver but yet again the level of criticism Pastor receives is completely disproportionate. He had a bad season in 2013 and was iratic as f**k in 2012. Other than that he's had a pretty solid care...

Re: Magnussen to Replace Maldonado?
Love him or hate him, but one thing for sure Pastor Maldonado has won 1 GP in his F1 career, something that Kevin Magnussen hasn't achieved. He didn't get that win in his rookie year though, so it's a pretty irrelevant comparison against a driver with only a single year in F1. He's got the same num...

Re: Daft, funny and unbelievable but genuine F1 rumours
Pedro Diniz was heavily linked to Benetton for 2000.
During 1997 Hakkinen was linked with a move away from Mclaren. Jordan seeming the most likely.
To be fair the most ridiculous ones seem to happen. Alonso back to Mclaren, Raikkonen back to Ferrari, Damon Hill to Arrows.

Magnussen is a very good driver but not worth the 35 mil. That money would be better spent on the car than a possible slight driver upgrade.

The reasons for fans losing interest, as other/s above have said, could be that a favourite driver or team is not winning. In both 2007 & 2008 Massa was stellar and up until his accident was muscling that car and doing well despite it's capabilities compared to the top teams. We all agree that hamilton is an all-time great already and Massa matched him blow for blow consistently so it speaks volumes of how good he is. ...

has any F1 driver ever retired whilst in a dominant car Loads whilst in the best or joint best car - Hawthorn, Stewart, Lauda, Jones, Mansell, Prost and Schumacher I'm not sure you can lump Michael in this. Re: Is the grid better now or 10 years ago?
OK, Rosberg has in the last 3 seasons put on a few drives where he was untouchable and he's been quite consistent. To be as close to someone the likes of Lewis is no easy task and he's been right there. How were any of his drives any better than Monaco 2004? I mean, virtually all of Rosberg's wins ...

I disagree on both of them. Nick was the same throughout his career in F1 and so was Trulli. Again, neither of them were anything special. When Trulli was matching Alonso, Alonso was still learning. Sure Flavio put the brakes on his contention against Alonso but a true great would have marched on a...

To me Massa did better than Kimi against Alonso. He was able to outqualify him plenty of times even if Alonso still won the majority of the time. But yeah...race pace wise maybe Kimi and Massa were closely matched, but Massa definitely looked better than Kimi on Saturdays. However, when Massa was a...

Kimi's performance in a Ferrari tally with exactly what logic would tell you it should have done. That is why I don't think he has deteriorated much from his Lotus days. I never rated him as highly as others did in his Lotus days either. I received a lot of stick for this on Autosport forum back in...
