Re: Do you think Alonso would want to go to Mercedes?
No, I think McLaren/Honda will be a proper team in 2017, Honda must have targeted year 3 as the breakthrough year, plus there is no guarantee Mercedes will dominate again, Alonso would prefer to be in a Newey car, who is done with the Americas cup project now. That won't happen though obviously. Wat...

Re: Nico Rosberg retires from F1, with immediate affect
If Rosberg's retirement means he doesn't get involved in the promotional work for F1, then it is a pretty poor show in my eyes. The great WDC's of the past have been ambassadors for racing and keen to see the sport expand.
I get the feeling he wants out of F1 entirely. If so who takes that role on?

Obviously better, diminishes the chances of luck deciding points. More start drama too! Cuts out middle of the race boredom. First decent idea BE has had, still if you get the rest wrong what remains must be the right one!!

Alonso for me. Did a pretty good job in qualifying and 5th is a stunning result This. (With an honourable mention to Sainz, brilliant on the softs which everyone but Lewis seemed to me to struggle with) Same here. I would liked to have gone for Saintz, but had to go for Alonso Why would that be, Al...

Re: The funniest current driver?
I think Ricciardo has to be the only driver who has made me laugh during a race, last night's Gutierrez quip was great and unfortunately seems to have more or less slipped under the radar. After following and being held up for over a lap with Gutierrez showing no sign of intending to pull aside eve...

Massively frustrating spoilers aren't they, having said that if you don't have Sky their coverage is enjoyable if lacking in post race discussion. DC seemed to really enjoy his visit to the race camp site, which in my opinion is where the real atmosphere comes from, surprising how cold camping in th...

Re: 2016 German Grand Prix Race Thread
Still too early to call the title, engine penalties to come and a DNF or two could bring it right back. However, when Nico falls into the clutches of RB and Ferrari's his race craft is exposed, I just feel if LH was in 4th behind a a RB he would find a way back to second. That for me is the big diff...

In a way , it's a good thing for Hamilton not to get poll. Seems to make him more determined, however, don't underestimated the Red Bulls though there could well be a fast start from either of them, with all the front 4 cars having something to prove.

It's been coming since his wife passed away unfortunately. Re: The Official NICO ROSBERG thread
If it was Hamilton and Rosberg battling it out one to one, I'd say that reliability could be a deciding factor. However, as proven at Silverstone, Rosberg runs the risk of getting snaffled up by the Red Bulls on some circuits so increasing the points difference.

Re: 2016 British Grand Prix Race Thread
It's frustrating that the whole radio debacle has derailed the media from doing what they should be doing, which is harassing the FIA about the ridiculous safety car start. The safety car was hardly a big deal. I know it was a struggle for Lewis at first, but he turned out fine. Non-issue if you as...

WDC with 3 different constructors. Need true class and a bit of luck to do that I reckon. Funnily enough I was thinking about that the other day. I don't know why winning WDCs with different teams proves anything myself, to me it means most likely someone just lucked into being in the right car at ...

If NR gets a grid penalty at Hungary it will be 5 places, if for example LH gets an engine failure of say either his turbocharger or MGU-H.he will face a 10 place penalty, he gets more leeway with other engine components. Very informative Lamo, I didn't realise that a double penalty was possible, though I should have realised it historically. They have now, as you have mentioned them ! It equally applies to NR of course, (I did mention it in the original post), gearbox issues don't have a time span as they automatically get taken at the next event. In any sport where penalties are applied it will affect the overall outcome. It's not just all the penalties that are gong be coming in the second half of the season. A penalty in Australia may eventually affect the WDC or WCC. As for it comment it should all be about the WDC, I personally think it...

Should penalties decide the WDC?
So we are back to parity in terms of the WDC points, all bar a point. Vettel and Rosberg take a grid penalties to Hungary. Hamilton has used his PU's. Add to that a new 10 second radio component penalties could affect results and points. I am interested in how it might pan out now strategically. Wil...

Why should a failed appeal carry a further penalty? Does it work like that in law? In UK law when you appeal you reopen the case, if that appeal is deemed trivial or without due reason you run the risk of aggravating the authority so they may sentence up or down. In other sport it certainly happens...
