Re: When will McLaren get back on the podium?

The 'who will get the most podiums out of BOT PER GRO' thread revival reminded me of this thread, now that the season is over... 55% of voters were wrong. My vote was/is 2017, less confident now, grown progressively less confident as this season kept going by with little improvement. Hope the new re...

Re: Total and Average experience of F1 starting grids

Updated 2015 to include Mehri and Stevens though they missed the first GP. 2016 beats out 2011 for most experienced grid on average. 2017 is going to be fun when 3 of the 5 most experienced drivers leave at the same time, about 760 starts between them. Fun note: I was just revisiting this thing for ...

Re: Silly Season 2017

I wonder if winning GP2 would put Giovinazzi in a bit of a weird seat, if he can't land a seat with Manor for example at the last moment? I mean, Gasly will probably move to TR whether he wins or finishes runner up, and you'd assume Giovinazzi would stay with Prema and go for the title next year if ...

Of the F3 rookies, I first thought Ben Barnicoat was the most impressive around the half season mark or so, but Joel Eriksson has had a much stronger second half and took the rookie title by some margin. Hubert also improved a lot during the season.

I have to assume that teams have intelligent enough people working for them that they'll realize someone who's gotten all their super license points in F4 and F3 aren't going to have the same experience as someone who's done a few years in more powerful cars and with tires more like F1's, like GP2, ...

How on earth can the commentators blame Canamasas for that accident. He left the door open and Pic oversteered into him! That was incredibly odd to me, too. I guess Canamasas gets the blame automatically due to his history, because there's no way anyone can claim he didn't leave Pic enough room. Pi...

Prema in GP2, what a crazy debut season. Also, Markelow is my favourite, I love this guy. I don't care how quick he is, he should get a ten year contract in F1 just so we can hear his radio transmissions. Incredibly poor weekend from Sirotkin, and a bone head move to finish it off. Pretty much the p...

First half of 2016 is up soon, and the closest they got was Alonsos 5th in Monaco. I'd be amazed if they manage to do it at Spielberg or Silverstone. I haven't been paying that close attention to engine components this year, but isn't Alonso already sniffing at grid penalties? As they're still even ...

Slightly old statistic, but in first 104 years of history of the Isle of Man TT, 234 riders died. So over 2 a year on average. Well, as far as pay drivers go, he's at least competitive. Last year was his rookie season after all, up against super-veteran Rosenqvist and Dennis who had a full season behind him. He was and is probably in the best team, though. Not saying he didn't buy his Williams role.

Nelson Piquet Jr has been barred from participating in the Pau F3 Grand Prix this weekend, by the FIA. Guess they think it's against the spirit of the series to let such experience drivers enter. I don't see it. Soundly beaten by someone most consider second tier, twice. It requires some serious mental gymnastics to think he'd do much better than Räikkönen at Ferrari. He's done well in the Haas but that car isn't the Manor rival some might've expected.

I find it hard to guess because it feels like so much is down to chance and given Lewis' fortunes in the first races I can't really make an educated guess what would happen if he got away ahead for once.
