Re: Best circuits for DRS & W-duct?

The major benefit of the double drs is in qualifying. The ability to overtake is not a major factor in winning races. Races are usually won from the front, or near the front with good strategy and very good race pace. So the benefit in qualifying for double drs is the ability to run low downforce c...

Best circuits for DRS & W-duct?

Just thinking how the year is likely to pan out with Mercedes likely to win or do well at circuits with longer straights and multiple DRS zones, and by which stage of the season the other teams will have developed their own stalling device. I guess most front running teams will have the W-duct by Br...

Re: The Next "1st Winner" Driver

I think Grosjean. The Sauber duo are just as talented but Sauber historically have never had a car with outright performance above the rest of the field. Lotus on the other hand may be able to find a little extra at maybe a slow track or find a good performance on a qualifying session to carry into ...

I think he should be pretty happy. Once Mercedes are more comfortable at the front he ought to find a way to beat Nico. At the moment they are still experimenting with the car and tyres.

Re: "Biggest disappointment since Shrek 2"

Shrek 2 wasn't that bad. It's actually the best Shrek ever. Exactly, far superior to the first one... Yes Shrek 2 was actually rather good thanks to Dawn French as the evil fairy godmother Shrek 3 was rubbish. Shrek 4 was watchable but not funny. The series lost the element to surprise after the fi...

Permanent quality at Brackley? Well they won the 2009 WDC and WCC and Ross Brawn has a pretty long record of excellence too That's not permanent quality. 2007 and 2008 were catastrophe, 2011 wasn't good either. When you look at teams like Ferrari or McLaren you see what I call permanent quality. Me...

Congrats Nico!!!!! Well done to Brawn & Mercedes too

Just wanted to say well done to Nico on his first win! I was quite impressed with him during his Williams days and wished he could have brought them to the front again but I think he has finally found his place in Formula 1 and should provide a welcome threat to the bigger teams. It will be good if ...

Re: Damon now fully behind FIA's Bahrain decision

I don't think it is good for F1's image to be racing in countries where protesters are being shot dead. On the other hand, racing there might actually draw more attention to the protester's cause so maybe some good will come of it but I think you can be certain something will happen.

Re: Kimi v Schu comebacks - Discuss

Both Lotus and Mercedes are still just shy of podium worthy cars. I think expecting either Kimi or Schu to reappear and beat the McLarens and Redbulls who have been fighting hammer and tong for the recent seasons is a tad optimistic but I can't really criticize either driver since they both have a b...

I don't think everyone should jump the gun on this. Rather than Group Lotus sponsoring Genii, Genii may be buying Group Lotus!!!!! A bit like the Caterham deal then!! Clearly, the management have made some mistakes but Lotus as a company has always been about evolving, adapting and finding an innova...

Re: mclaren fuel saving etc

I am pretty sure the hunted usually has more pace to spare than the hunters. Also I think it is a better strategy to under fuel the car at races such as Melbourne where safety cars are usually abundant. Lastly, since refuelling was banned, getting the minimum fuel into the tank has been far more imp...

Re: FIA Rules Mercedes Wing LEGAL

The system does make the car faster in the race as well as qualifying because the higher up the grid you are, the less traffic and dirty air you are going to have, meaning the rest of the package works to it's fuller potential, saving seconds a lap. Mercedes could improve over the course of the year...

Re: Lotus and re-active ride height revisited.

Kimi was a bit unlucky, he set his time too early and then once the track improved it was too late to get a faster lap in. We may see a lot of high profile casualties in q1 this year cos the grid is so tight you have to put a fast lap in at the last minute or on soft tyres to be reasonably sure of p...

I think there is little to choose between Button and Lewis is terms of raw speed, it is just Button takes fewer risks because he knows sometimes it is better to be conservative, and when to gamble when there is nothing to lose. Lewis is still a top drawer driver, but Button has been in F1 about thre...

Are JB and SV too nice / underworked?

It would be enjoyable to see a bit of real rivalry and drama. These guys are too friendly, too laid back and too much like they just finished a relaxing massage when they step out of the car. I am probably going to have to begin supporting Lewis & Alonso if either can rediscover their mean streak to...

I think today flattered RedBull! Clearly they still have a decent car but their design route has hit a dead end. I think everyone is giving Massa a bit too much of a hard time. Clearly, Ferrari's sponsors want Alonso to do well and all the focus is on him. Re: Hamilton's pole is 1.4 seconds slower than Vettel's in 2

I don't think the FIA bans designs just stop stop a team being dominant, more to address the balance of the engineering as a package. The sport would be quite dull if there was only one area of the car where worthwhile or freakish performance can be found. Performance should come from the overall de...

Re: Mercedes engine is by far the best again

There is a balance with all things. I do believe the Mercedes engine will triumph this year however, the engine can be set to run more economically after qualifying and RedBull seem to have lost a little since they are still experimenting a little with exhausts like McLaren last year.

Off the top of my head the fastest F1 cars there have been, or the ones who seem to hold the most track records, are the 2004 cars. I can't help but feel that, ultimately, the biggest difference in lap times between cars of the last 10 - 15 years may be down to tyre compounds. One thing i would lov...
