Re: Red Bull's Checo Conundrum
Fair points. Checo did help win two WCCs though. Not his fault that the help wasn't needed. Maybe a better way to put it is that he was part of two WCC winning teams. I would think the same would apply to Bottas as well, at least for several seasons. If you have a dominant car and an elite #1 drive...

Re: Red Bull's Checo Conundrum
Note: Checo helped RB win two WCCs not one, they won the 2023 WCC a few weeks ago in Japan in case you forgot. The season isn't over yet, but it's quite likely that they would have won the 2023 WCC with only one car. If you rate Checo's driving in Red Bull in terms of 'value over replacement', the ...

Re: 2023 U.S. Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread
Just had to look it up, a pound is 7,000 grains, and an inch is three grains of barley, dry and round, placed end to end lengthwise. So 20 psi would be the equivalent of having 140,000 grains over an square area with a side length of three grains. There's also the old "sucker joke": Which weighs mo...

Re: 2023 U.S. Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread
Argh. Who uses psi as a unit for pressure? A handful of countries at most (mainly USA)? Then again the race distance and circuit length is shown in km. Try the good old U of K. Buy fuel in litres, consume it by miles per gallon. Imperial measurement for road distance, metric for most others. Still ...

Yeah if they felt they didn't punish him severely enough to begin with that's on them, and should just let the matter drop. Hamilton's status should bear no relevance on the severity of the punishment.

Playing Devil's advocate on the Ham/Rus clash, was Lewis obliged to give room to Russell when George moved to the left while trying to overtake Max? I think it is time to move on past discussing Alain Prost in this thread about 3-time WDCs. Save it for next year, when we will likely be comparing him to Vettel and Verstappen in a similar thread. At least Prost belongs to the same sport, have a look in the thread about Hamilton's and Verstappen's...

Drivers pushing for a 4th DRS zone. It really says a lot about the state of the sport when the fans want to get rid of DRS and the drivers want extra DRS zones, as otherwise it would be hard to overtake. Wasn't overtaking supposed to be hard? Some of the drivers seem to have lost their way a bit on...

If a drive-through is seen as too harsh (when have we last seen one of those??), would something like a 10s period of VSC speed be a alternative (if somehow implemented safely)?

Re: Red Bull's Checo Conundrum
In the start, the RB19 was a neutral car which let Checo drive at his optimum & kind of match Verstappen. Once the upgrades came, he lost confidence in the car & his pace dropped. Good thing is his race pace difference is getting lesser again to Verstappen's which is necessary for holding onto P2 i...

Re: Rank Hamilton and Verstappen's teammates
We can single out what we want, Verstappen got gifted a win in Barcelona when Ricciardo was running in front of him. Not the point. I wouldn't count incomplete seasons at all. 16 races to compete is more than enough. Perhaps quit looking for excuses for Verstappen? Verstappen doesn't need any excus...

Just because composites tend to have a certain amount of flexure DOES NOT mean you cannot build it in a way that makes an absolutely rigid component. Geometric shapes can dramatically affect the physical capabilities of materials. F1 car floors for example are made ultra thin but have relatively li...

True, nothing is ever guaranteed. What available driver is an upgrade? And no, they aren't going to sign Hamilton and buyout Checo's contract (unless Hamilton wants to drive for free). Buyout Checo and convince Albon to come back? I don't see them buying out Checo and buying Norris out of his contr...

This topic (not illegal if you are passing the tests that the FIA put in place) was discussed in length (ad nauseum?) over the summer break. He's saying if parts of a car pass all the FIA scrutineering tests then they are legal. There's no such thing as 100% rigid, therefore the only thing we have ...

Well, I think it is safe to say that only few drivers on the grid would have performed worse than Perez in the Red Bull this summer. I also think it is safe to say that Red Bull, given their dominance, can likely get virtually every driver on the grid if they want (with very few exceptions). The on...
