Re: A possible revival for BMW with McLaren
McLaren have needed an engine partner for their road cars for a little while now. BMW fits because of the connection to the original F1 (you will recall that at the time the F1 was in development the race team used Honda engines), but also they do not have a direct competitor with McLaren in the mar...

Re: Rate the nearly champions.
Shouldn't Peterson as the nearly champion vis-à-vis Fittipaldi rate above 100 per cent since he actually won more than him? The best figure, however, would be Ricciardo versus Vettel, wouldn't it? Ricciardo's never been a "nearly champion." He wasn't Vettel's teammate for any of his championships e...

No budget cap, but it would be nice to see the back of those ridiculous 'mission control' rooms the teams have back at HQ. If a way could be found to restrict direct involvement in the race only to those actually in the paddock, and then drastically cut the number of paddock passes issued... That mi...

Re: ferrari may lose the extra money they get
Of course every little helps, but if a team is reliant on an extra €10-€15M just to stay afloat in a sport like F1 then one has to question whether they have the right business plan. They should be able to survive without it and if anything it should only help them become more competitive, not mere...

Re: Rate the nearly champions.
The direction of the car design was taken in the direction of his team mates abilities. The direction of car design was taken in the direction of creating the fastest car possible. That Vettel drove it better is a shame for Webber, but such was the case. If you want proof of it - a 21 year old Vett...

even the monies out abit and we might see a future for f1 Dream on. That is not what is holding F1 back, it is at most a small factor. You can take ALL the historical money from Ferrari and it is not going make the small teams competitive. Perhaps a more fair share of the FOM take would help... ber...

Full electric F1 will end up as no more than a boring and expensive niche category and only teams supported by battery companies will be in contention for titles.

Bottas... For me he's the only choice. Experienced, quick, readily available with a sweet engine deal to Williams, and they get to put Pascal in a decent-ish car for a year to see if he's the real deal. Admittedly he has been rather anonymous in 2016 but a change of scenery could be exactly what he...

Re: When will Verstappen become WDC?
I'm not saying he doesn't have a chance, I'm saying his chances are as good as Webber's were. In 2010 Webber was treated as a number 2 driver and still was ahead of Vettel with one race to go, so he certainly had a chance. Which strongly suggests that he was more than good enough to win a world cha...

Re: Ricciardo 2014 vs 2016 season
Jezza13's comment on using Verstappen's age as a gauge for Ricciardo is no longer relevant, imo is correct. There have been young drivers in the past who have had the maturity to race competitively and sensibly against established top-raters. Back when I was young ( :] ) in 1910-1912, a 20-year-old...

I hate reading criticisms of former drivers like this. Herbert and Brundle may not have been top drawer but to suggest they stunk up the place is very unfair and shows a basic lack of understanding of what it takes to perform at that level for so long. If Frank Williams wasn't such a cheapskate when...

mds, from my armchair perspective I would put a lot of the difference down to the new tyres having lovely sharp edges on the tread blocks, and the taller blocks generating more heat as they are prone to flex around more than worn ones. Absolutely not at the level of Barrichello's drive at Donington '93 (forget Senna, Rubens was far more impressive in the passively sprung Jordan without TC) but for sure in the top 3 wet drives of the last decade or so. I agree that freebies are a no-no, as it gives a driver an opportunity to transgress strategically. What should happen is that the stewards shouldn't take forever and a day to make decisions. Special shout out to the Hart and Judd engines of the 80's and 90's. These engines were never going to win any championships, but they were compact, efficient and cheap. Merely having these engines available kept several teams afloat back in the early days of the 3.5 formula.
