Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2016 Spanish Grand Prix

Well Verstappen certainly drove well...but honestly, the race was gifted to him by Red Bull. So? So for me he wasn't driver of the day (but certainly one of the contenders). I think Ricciardo was more deserving (and quicker for the most part), but kind of got robbed a bit. Of course, wouldn't have ...

Re: Rosberg Vs Hamilton Spanish gp crash. The debate

There seems to be a perception here that if you have a little bit of your nose alongside the rear wheel of the car in front you have won the corner. Hamilton's fault all day long. Rosberg finally putting his foot down. And he can afford to. EXACTLY this. So many people here commenting Hamilto...

Except he wasn't alongside.

Rosberg was ahead, and entitled to choose his line. Hamilton feeling entitled - not for the first time.

Re: Rosberg Vs Hamilton Spanish gp crash. The debate

For me. Rosberg closed the door and it's not the first time he has done these tactics Bahrain comes to mind in 2012 I believe twice with Hamilton and alonso. Back of the grid for rosberg for me. I'd even say that he should get a 1 race ban You can't be serious - Hamilton wasn't alongside, Rosberg h...

Re: 2016 Renault vs. Honda - Battle of the laggards

So about 70% of the people so far went for Honda - after 3 races, does it still seem that way to the majority? The Renault-engined Red Bulls seemed pretty darn quick down the straights to me today (even overtaking a few Merc/Ferrari engined cars), while the McHondas were consistently getting mugged ...

Re: 2016 Chinese Grand Prix Practice Thread

Top speeds can be very misleading. Not only do fuel levels make quite a difference, he could have set that with a huge tow from another car or with a very low wing setting. Still, it's got to be encouraging for the McLaren fans, given that I don't recall seeing them being anywhere near the top in t...

Very 'meh' - but I think this will apply to most launches this year.

Hopefully it will be quick enough to steal a win - maybe Silverstone?

Re: 2016 Renault vs. Honda - Battle of the laggards

Does anyone know if Red Bull will help Renault with improving their engine in any way? In other words, are they taking the lump from Renault and developing it separately, or will there be cooperation between them and Viry?

Re: 2016 Renault vs. Honda - Battle of the laggards

Word on the street(s of Woking) is that Mclaren have got the ERS running, but now the engine's down on power as a whole. Still playing whack-a-mole it seems. The engine's also a little heavier than Macca were expecting. Could be bs. As a Mclaren fan I'm hoping it is :( This is interesting - would l...

Re: 2016 Renault vs. Honda - Battle of the laggards

Last I checked the Honda ICE of last year was superior to the Renault by the middle of the season. I expect them to resolve the troublesome ERS and be close to if not better than Ferrari. I would be shocked if they are not there. Renault, based on what happened last year, seems to have no clue on h...

Re: 2016 Renault vs. Honda - Battle of the laggards

I'm going to gamble and say Honda. If the rumours are true they know where their problems lie, whereas Renault haven't been all that sure But they suffered from terrible reliability as well last year (they themselves said it was like playing whack-a-mole, where fixing one problem led to another), n...

2016 Renault vs. Honda - Battle of the laggards

With testing not too far away, I'm curious to understand which one of these two manufacturers will have a better engine this year. Who do you think will be better - and more importantly, WHY? Renault's troubles are well-documented - started 2014 on the backfoot, but everyone expected them to be much...

Re: If F1 was high school, which driver would be most popula

Vettel's incredibly funny, so I think he would be quite popular - but since this is high school, I'm guessing there's no beating Jenson Button. I really doubt either Vettel or Kimi would be the most popular until college, when you actually start appreciating better humour (or brooding mystery men, i...

Re: Is the grid better now or 10 years ago?

Personally, I think this caveat you are using regarding driver errors is a little unreasonable too. Hamilton made errors, Massa made errors, Raikkonen made errors---so it’s all relative. In general and blunt terms, surely, a world champion not driving his best would still nonetheless be expected to...

I think this quote from Mallya explains it: "It’s also exciting for the team to begin working with a young Russian driver given the success of the Russian Grand Prix in recent years. It’s a market with huge potential for Formula One and the emergence of young talents, such as Nikita, will ensure int...

Well, I do not consider it "most unlikely" that Hamilton could beat a badly driving Massa, not even with the latter in a slightly better car Ok, for arguments sake, let’s for just one moment accept that a relative newbie (Hamilton) was expected to wipe the floor, in a slightly inferior car, with an...

I have a feeling he might be bringing some sponsorship to the team, because he doesn't exactly seem to be top-tier based on his career so far.

Yep. I do agree with you that these drivers are an elite group and that sometimes anomaly results are thrown up. But that is exactly the point I am trying to make. By their very nature, an irregular, unexpected or unlikely result is one that is out of the norm, against the grain, against the odds. A...

Re: Dennis: Button needs to try harder

Imo Button has performed very well in 2015 against Alonso, and has upped his speed slightly. However in 2014 against Magnussen I thought he did well too, Magnussen being faster than perceived. By my driver ratings Button and Raikkonen in 2015 equal rated at 100.3. For two drivers into their 14th se...

hawaiiF1fan, I would put Michael and Hamilton in the same area and Vettel is a strong argument for 2015, but after that the consistent performances of the others in 2006 doesn't seem like they would be overshadowed by the 2015 pack of drivers.
