Re: Any engineers here?

Got my Masters in Mechanical Engineering 2 years ago and despite having to find a job in the middle of a recession I managed to land one, after numerous rejections (one of which was an optimistic application to McLaren), landed myself a job at an engine manufacturer. I've (hopefully!) got a whole ca...

Re: How lucky are we?

I think the main reason for the records being so affected by the current crop is the amount of races we now have. By the end of this season Hamilton will have competed in more GPs that Jackie Stewart. I think this is the key point here, and it is skewing all the F1 records. Vettel is only two victo...

Re: HRT to fail to attend Mugello test

Makes sense for them. Its not like they have any reliability issues to work out. They have been pretty reliable so far. And they dont have any new parts to test. It will be waste of precious money for them. Track time makes sense when you have something to test or improve. They have none at the mom...

He shouldn't have thrown his toys out of the pram at McLaren. If he'd just accepted that the team wasn't going to revolve around him as it did at Renault then I believe he would have won the title in '07 and '08. He missed out in '07 by a point, and that was despite losing the moral support of the t...

Re: F1 Driver you like the most out of the current drivers?

Lewis Hamilton. In an era when F1 drivers appear to be little more than mindless robots, both in interviews and in the super-smooth-car-on-rails way that they drive, I just love watching a driver who shows his human side more than any of the others on both counts. He's brilliant and frustrating in e...

Of course he can still make a defensive move. He just can't swerve across the width of the track. Rosberg's move left Hamilton no option but to go off the track as he had nowhere else to go at that point. If there hadn't been tarmac run-off there then he would have had a monster accident. The issue was magnified because the Bahrain track is so freaking wide. Basically all that Rosberg did was move over to his right, so that any passing attempt would be forced to the outside. At any other track like Monza or Spa, the same move would be hardly noticed, because the track is only about ...

Re: Tires too demagable / delicate?

How about we just go back to 2005 tyre regs, and give each driver 1 set of ultra-hard tyres per race, with only changes allowed in special occasions. Then they would hardly have to pit at all, and the cars would be forced to pass each other on track. This situation is a difficult one to solve, I th...

He's made a promising start, I've been pleasantly surprised by him. Well he's shown plenty of killer instinct in the past. He probably could have made that move stick on Vettel today if he'd gone for it but that's easy for me to say from the confort of my sofa. Appalling driving from Rosberg in both instances, and an equally appalling decision from the stewards. I think he's just being brutally honest. The standard question every driver is asked after qualifying is 'what are your hopes/expectations for tomorrow?'. Alonso is merely answering the question put to him. I think it's also important for him to keep the fans' expectations in check; the tifosi tend ...

DRS did have an effect as it allowed drivers to close right up on the back straight. Quite often the cars were side by side going into the last corner, causing the de...

I think Vettel is doing just fine so far this year. He did well in Australia to get 2nd, and to come 5th in China just behind Webber is a decent result given where he was on the first lap. I don't think there'll be a mad rush to copy the system. I don't think the benefit justifies the expense, and I'm not sure if it can be easily incorporated into a car that was designed without it in mind. The teams would reap greater rewards by spending their resources elsewhere.

It's been long overdue. I've always rated Rosberg and knew that he would mix it with the best once he had a good enough car. Now that Mercedes seem to have sorted their race pace Rosberg could be a real title contender this year. A well deserved win and I've no doubt it will be the first of many.
