Re: Is the Ferrari really that bad?

No the car is not as bad as some people are making it out to be. It was a bit of a handful at the beginning of the season but they have sorted out any stability problems and the car has good pace. There's 12 different cars on the grid and the Ferrari is certainly in the top 6 by any measure of what ...

Re: Schumacher/Senna incident

Senna moved to the right so Schumi chose to dive down the left. At that point he was commited to a dive I think. Then Senna starts moving left and Schumi thinks Senna is going to continue moving left to block the outside so he switches to dive down the inside. However Senna doesnt block the outside ...

Different tyres. Pirelli didn't just make a compound before the season and stick with it. They show up with different tyres every race.

Re: How close are drivers to the ragged edge?

During the race they have enough grip to go significantly faster than they currently do. But they would destroy the tyre in a couple of laps. They don't drive to a tactile limit of adhesion any more. They drive to a lap delta that the engineers are telling them. The engineers have calculated the ide...

Re: The Official Kimi Räikkonen thread

Maybe Kimi doesnt want to test? When Lotus signed him, they knew he was a driver they need to keep happy to maximise his performance on the track. Minimise the boring stuff like PR and interviews and maximise the fun aspect of the team. This is a strategic decision because it is the best way to keep...

Re: Hamilton to muscle in on McLaren's Mugello test schedule

Hamilton is still young, only 27. If he races til he is 40 I would be amazed if he was still at McLaren. That would be very boring and unadventurous of Lewis. He is in too much of a comfort zone there.

I think he will definitely move to another team, maybe in 3-4 years.

Re: Pirelli Tyres or Bernie's Artificial Rain?

Artifical rain is the dumbest idea I have heard in a long time. Is he suggesting some sprinklers above the tracks?

I do think a couple of races on the calender should be deliberately scheduled so there is a good chance of rain. Although Malaysia is a step too far.

Yes- I had a close call with flying debris in this crash test myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4WcjFt8K1I watch out for the screw heading straight for the camera... and this is from the windscreen which is meant to protect the driver- 8O  Yes but that is some kind of crudely constructed...

Re: Roll cages in F1? latest footage from the FIA

Jet fighter canopy seems to be the best idea for protecting driver from flying debris.

It should improve visibility as well because you could move the drive higher or the bodywork lower. And that would improve wheel-to-wheel racing with less amatuerish crashes.

Re: Bahrain - Fastest Laps Averaged over Race Distance Graph

I really have no clue what I am looking at. It looks pretty though.

Why not just a simple graph of actual lap times for each driver? It would be easier to interpret and more interesting, we would see who is most consistent and how the tyres fall away etc.

Re: Bernie considering "Grand Slam" races with more points

They should have a secret word (like 'petunia') and when they hear a commentator say it, whoever is fastest on that lap gets double points. It would add a strategic layer to the races because the teams would never know when it was going to happen. Also the driver with the overall fastest lap would g...

I think he came out of retirement because he was bored and probably the wife was driving him crazy and asking him to paint the house etc. When you are used to racing at high speed, and then you retire and spend your Sunday reading the paper instead, that must be pretty depressing. That's why he star...

Re: Post race comment from Jenson "special start out"

I remember one year some team or teams used the false start detector to automatically launch the car. There was an electromagnetic sensor in the tarmac under every grid slot, it was used to detect the car moving before the lights went out (to detect a false start). Some teams figured out that when t...

Its hard to preserve tyres when you are attacking guys in front or defending guys from the rear.

2 stop was a dumb strategy. Worked for Nico because he was out in front with no attacking/defending and could go easy on the tyres.

They should be allowed to use DRS wherever they want in a race, as much as they want. I think it would cause more errors and give more opportunity for overtaking. It would add an extra element of driver skill, who can stay off DRS as late as possible into a braking zone, and who can get on it as ear...
